Bill Taylor testifies two channels were created for Ukraine policy, 'one regular, one irregular'
Describing administration policy-making in Ukraine, Taylor said the "regular" channel would be through traditional State Department channels, according to sources. The "irregular channel," he told lawmakers, was through European Union Ambassador Gordon Sondland, former special envoy Kurt Volker, Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani and outgoing Energy Secretary Rick Perry. According to sources, the State Department tried to keep Taylor from testifying. But the Intelligence Committee issued a subpoena, making Tuesday’s appearance a “deposition.”
I think while some clearly believe that, the bigger portion just see Trump as the last chance to have the kind of nation that they want- white majority, low or no immigration, minorities "in their place", an economic and political structure catering only to them and their issues, etc. They see the demographics changing and they're scared to death. To them, Trump is not MAGA, he's preventing their literal destruction. He's helped that image by telling them over and over again who their "enemies" are (the media, Democrats, immigrants, etc) while also pulling the classic "I'm the only one who can save you". For them, everything is riding on Trump, and most of them will never let him go literally no matter what.
