A lot of people dont do the right financial thing... even incredible clever people do stupid personal financial decisions!!
Like getting insurance.. even though you never need it, because its INSURANCE!
Exactly. When I was in my mid 20s I debated whether if I should get private insurance.
I saw the ad that said "Hey you're not Superman! Be sure you're covered if there is an accident."
So, I thought to myself it would be wise to be prepared. I am glad I purchased that insurance. I sprained my back later that year and got it paid with insurance for $500. Otherwise, the bill would have been about $3000+. In hindsight, even young "healthy" adults can have some accident that leads to a major injury by surprise (ACL/MCL from rec center basketball or intramural soccer or even just ultimate frisbee).

I'm very well covered, there is no cap and my total out of pocket is I think 5k.

I had an emergency appendectomy that cost $90k and I only paid 2 grand.

I went to the doctor the other day and paid $12.

RXs are $10 at the most.
All of these costs to you should be $0.

And keep in mind that this is with insurance that you say leaves you "very well covered." Someone working a minimum wage or some other low wage job is toast if they ran into your situation with their own appendix.

Why are you defending a system that is clearly inferior to other systems?

No, the costs I’m fine with and not getting soaked with sky high taxes is what I want.

How many times have I said on this thread that my $12/hr entry level employees are offered the exact same identical plan I have?

Canada's Private Clinics Surge as Public System Falters
The country's publicly financed health insurance system — frequently described as the third rail of its political system and a core value of its national identity — is gradually breaking down. Private clinics are opening around the country by an estimated one a week, and private insurance companies are about to find a gold mine.

The head of Canada's Medical Assn. says they are in need of a major overhaul in order not to collapse.

Task force urges more private health care in Quebec
A provincial task force is recommending health-care user fees and greater privatization to guarantee the viability of medical care in Quebec.

The personal bankruptcy rate was actually higher in Canada in 2006 and 2007 (0.30 percent for both years) than in the United States (0.20 percent and .27 percent).
* Medical reasons were cited as the primary cause of bankruptcy by approximately 15 percent of bankrupt Canadian seniors (55 years of age and older).
* Non-medical expenditures comprise the majority of debt among bankrupt consumers in both Canada and the United States; the inability to earn sufficient income to cover these costs -- not exposure to uninsured medical costs -- is the real explanation for almost all bankruptcies in either country.

greece is in the RED

germany is in the RED,
PUBLIC GERMAN acute hospitals face bankruptcy

even France is going BROKE on their health care system....the spent 350 billion to cover 65 million (their population)

spain.........bankrupt
italy..........failing

belguim......failing
iceland.......bankrupt

portugal.......bankrupt
So France is spending less than 1/2 per person of the spending here and everybody is covered. Is this is the point you were trying to make
