What does it mean when parts of the world are said to be “Westernizing”? It means that other peoples of the world are starting to emulate the ways of the West. Racism against blacks has, for the last 400 years, been part of western think and behavior. It’s one of the things that Western Imperialism has spread, along with its capitalism.
I don’t know what’s radical about the article. Part of why colorism is so strong in India has to do with Western influences.
The propaganda about the post-racial plantation utopia is just that propaganda.
What the media & academia produce & reproduce is that of a certain caste & class.
Just like they fly over from one gated often community from one coast of the country to another, so too they flyover 3rd hellholes from one gated community to another. They are the modern equivalents of the imperial bourgeoise, globalism aka imperialism 2.0.
Most of the people of colour they showcase are often descendants of the domiciled settler class (many of them paleo & neo-nazis or settlers firom the 1930's fascist regimes; yet in the states are considered both model and/or marginalized minorities) or of their coloured concubines (the slaver sidekicks from the man-children have become increasingly obsolete with the acceptance of globalist plantation identity politics & technology).
Those that believe in some pan-plantation utopia are in for a rude awakening.
I don't like the angle that relieves these boys (and their parents) of any responsibility for being racist pieces of trash...because that's exactly what they are. Racist trash.
To assume that Indians learn racism when they come to the United States is absurd. They don't need to come here to learn it; they're pretty well-versed already.

They came from a country with ancient traditions of excluding people based on their caste. Those traditions existed way long before USA and all of the European countries.

Caste system is still very much prevalent in India. Not sure how Indian these Indians were as the article is paywalled but if you take someone who is a recent immigrant they're most likely from one of the top two castes. Take that mentality and put it in America.
E.g., one of my friends in high school was Indian but he came over when he was like 2 and very Western. None the less he's of the highest social class in India and goes back. It's weird for him because his Indian cousins will do things that are pretty horrible to him. E.g., they'll be playing basketball and the ball goes off the court and into some bushes. They just look around and find a lower caste person at random and point to them and say "you go get the ball" and the lower caste person does it because that's how India works.
Take someone raised like that, put them in America where they've gone from the top of a still rigid caste system where they're now nowhere near the top and it's not all that surprising they act out. It doesn't excuse their actions which as an evil white black suppressor person it's abhorrent. At 17 I really hope they're held accountable for it. For the author of the article maybe she looks at it as unfortunately accepted behavior in America but we'll just disagree there. I don't think it's acceptable behavior at all. But then let's be real about that as well. Jim Crow was acceptable behavior at least in part of the country and the author is old enough to have first-hand experience with Jim Crow. Growing up in an era of Jim Crow, born in Houston one of the earlier areas to end Jim Crow laws, has to leave its mark just as growing up in India does. Some people can escape it and others cannot.
