The performance here — flinging around the N-word, with the befoulment of urination — holds an answer. One potent way of being American, no matter where you or your parents are from, is enacting anti-blackness. And traditionally, acting out anti-blackness has meant acting white.
The New York Times as well as most of print and visual media has become a sick satire, reminiscent of a Monty Python sketch. How anyone can read them boggles the (rational) mind.

What does it mean when parts of the world are said to be “Westernizing”? It means that other peoples of the world are starting to emulate the ways of the West. Racism against blacks has, for the last 400 years, been part of western think and behavior. It’s one of the things that Western Imperialism has spread, along with its capitalism.
I don’t know what’s radical about the article. Part of why colorism is so strong in India has to do with Western influences.

Far too simplistic. Certainly colonialism and also indentured labor (for some) had a negative impact on South Asian and South Asian-descended societies and contributed to the colorism that exists among those groups today. However, those issues existed before to some degree for various reasons and there are also elements of sexism/sexual violence here that have been an ongoing issue within Indian society especially. All sorts of issues may be involved here that the article didn’t begin to touch.
