At present it serves as a buffer against Russian expansionism in the west. It is strongly in NATO's interest, and that of the US, to maintain that status. Impeachment and removal is favored in this new poll 49/47, but even larger majorities are clearly starting to see the president’s conduct and his back channel efforts with Giuliani as at least misconduct or wrongdoing.
Once all the transcripts are released and we move to open hearings on impeachment, it seems there is room for an even greater majority to possibly come around to favoring impeachment as we learn more.
POTUS’s approval rating has held steady around 40%, and it would seem that coupled with this poll and others would seem to indicate that around 60% are not full on orange koolaid drinkers and are open to considering the evidence.

We've seen plenty of evidence already, including the partial transcript of the call that POTUS somehow thought would be exculpatory, when it was actually more damning.
If you find an example of another president leveraging strategic aid to try to force a foreign country to dig up dirt on a political rival, I'll be the first to condemn it.

This may not have been discussed on the call, but the witnesses have testified that it was communicated to aids of the Ukrainian president that the aid was also contingent on the investigations. This is why the fact finding process is ongoing, there is more being considered here than just the call.

On Tuesday, the Director for European affairs for the National Security Council testified on Tuesday that the release of the aid was made "contingent" on Ukrainian officials carrying out investigations into Burisma and the Bidens.
