Why not? When the wacky world of liberalism is encouraging people to reject reality and be whoever and whatever they want, identifying oneself as an animal is a "logical" next step.

I'd like CNN or MSNBC to ask the Democratic candidates hard-hitting questions about what they'll do for the trans-species voter in the next town hall or debate.

All these mean-spirited comments about mental illness is proof of exactly why it's undertreated. With all the stigma and dehumanization of sufferers, they're unlikely to voluntarily seek out treatment. Acknowledgement that certain people are gripped with mental illness and compassion is not mutually exclusive.
