His unfitness to be POTUS was fully documented before the election, but he managed to dupe a lot of low information voters into thinking he was some kind of business genius (despite his terrible business record in reality).
Some people weren't duped. Some well off people in Texas, Florida, etc. wanted the best chance at a tax cut and a particular flavor of SCOTUS pics....and they voted accordingly and got what they wanted.
