It's funny how so many who claim to be left libertarians also support authoritarian policies when they are proposed by Democrats.

I'd have a lot more faith in the future of American politics if I truly had this many fellow libertarians on both sides of the left/right split.

Perhaps it's that many are libertarians in principle but are easily convinced to abandon their principles for authoritarian nonsense by emotional appeals.

Sometimes seems to me that those opposed to a 'Nanny state' are perfectly fine with a 'Grandpappy' one. Look around this forum for examples.

My point exactly, there simply aren't this many libertarians out there in practice so that must mean that most of these "libertarians" throw their principles away at the first emotional appeal or sacrifice them for the sake of partisanship.

Would a 'graph plotted' determination be more useful if the proposed labels on the axes were more helpful? For example, something like communitarianism vs. individualism as discussed above?

Utopian v. Dystopian? Notable: there are no libertarian countries; a solitary, isolated human being is a contradiction in terms, human beings are social beings who live in communities.

Can you please be more specific? I'm just trying to assess if I am one of those you speak about. Which authoritarian policies?

In Canada or Europe I would be a "Moderate".
That is how far right America has become.

Authoritarian vs libertarian is effectively just collectivist vs individualist. Libertarians protect individual freedoms from the collectivists who would rob the people "for the greater good"

You could just as easily frame it as libertarian freedom vs authoritarian tyranny..... and a depressing number of people pick authoritarian tyranny when their party tells them to.

The problem with utopian vs dystopian is that the terms mean different things to different people. To some, socialism would be utopian, to others dystopian. So that framing would merely put the bias of the person doing the framing on display rather than being useful.

Left leaning libertarian:

Economic Left/Right: -5.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.44

(Closest to Ghandi on the comparison chart, I'm OK with that.)

I thought many of the questions were bad. While I agreed with what they stated, I did not necessarily agree it was a good (or bad) thing. Not sure how that weighed into my score.

They exist on both sides of the left right split. Examples of the top of my head would be effectively everything Beto or Elizabeth Warren stand for on the left and things like the patriot act on the right.

The politics of class envy and fear are the favored tools of the authoritarian.
