The grown-up children seeking to orchestrate this thread have no idea what they're pattling about; it was middle-class Republicans -- mostly educators and professionals in small and middle-sized communities like mine, who sustained and guided what was then known as the "conservation" movement (conservative -- such a dirty word) through its fragile formative struggles up until 1960; the Lefties were more interested in mollifying their simple-minded allies in the labor unions and urban political machines.
"Conservation" didn't become a popular cause among the Left until it could be rebranded "ecology" (a word which I first encountered in Farmer in the Sky -- a work by juvenile sci-fi master and pioneer "uncapitalized" libertarian Robert A.Heinlein, written in 1i950. it was not until this point that a legitimate, but pragmatic and moderate concern could be hijacked and sold to the immature, the impatient, and the impressionable.

Republicans love to say how they hate environmental regulations, especially on this board. There isn’t an environmental rule or reg they would not get rid of if they could.
