we already have a good example of that..... Michael Brown. Many liberals today feel police shouldn't be allowed to shoot anyone unless they're shot at first. That's the level of intelligence of people that are attracted to the Democratic Party these days.
Not the same thing at all, the police tried to de-esculate the situation before using less lethal force in the form of taser.
The UK man in the video lived to tell the tale, there was very little effort to back off, allow time for other officers to arrrive or to use non-lethal force as the preferred option in the case of the US woman.
It is the same thing. The police officer did not just waltz in the door and busta-a-cap in her. Once the woman made her decision to charge, however, yes it's different. US police officers aren't trained to run away and hide for backup. It's up to the individual police officer whether he wants to be a punching bag/pin cushion or a scuffle or not. This one didn't.

They should be trained to de-esculate, wait for back-up and use only necessary force, and perhaps more training in relation to the mentally ill might also help.
Given that officers can take people down with objects such as scissors with a taser or other non lethal, or through rush tactics and shields, as is done every day of the week in terms of violent prisoners with shanks by teams of prison officers.
Mental Health nurses also manage to contain dangerous people without resorting to firearms, and in terms of the UK, the vast majority of police don't even carry a firearm in the first place.
If the woman had pointed a gun at the officers then fair enough, however shooting someone for pointing a pair of scissors is not fair enough, not does it constitute reasonable or necessary force, and that is the law in a lot of western countries outside of the US.

I saw a video once where a man holding a knife was repeatedly told by a police officer to drop it. Knife guy closed the gap between the two with astonishing speed, but was taken down by the officer's gun.
I guess he did what he had to do, she told him, "You're going to have to shoot me."
It never seems to amaze me that "LE doesn't just shoot at the weapon???? IF she was brandishing a GUN..different story in my mind!
It's also becoming more and more apparent, that desperate people will do desperate things for "getting "Killed By COP" since unable to self kill ( suicide). Whether she's Mentally Ill or not.. It's obvious this COP really didn't have to do a "Center Shot" to de-escalate .. I'm amazed just how often that unstable, angry, aggressive people get killed like this
Bottomline, appears, that mentally ill people have difficulty accessing "Appropriate Care".. Could it be due to Medical Care accesses that only those who can afford it..+ the lack of reporting of unstable behaviours are not reported? IF she had access to a gun/ family, boyfriend, husband> who knows what carnage she could've done.
