Andrei Serban is a world-renowned theater and opera director and was until recently a professor at Columbia University. After 27 years at the school, he resigned his position because he felt the political correctness at Columbia had reached a point of absurdity. Serban, who was born in Romania and fled communism for the United States, told a Romanian TV show that he felt he was “living under communism again” at Columbia. A video of Serban’s appearance on the show with English subtitles appeared on YouTube earlier this week in which he describes the reasons he resigned.

“What’s happening in the Trump era, the right is radicalized and the left is very radicalized,” Serban said. He continued, “Universities in America are usually left. Columbia is some sort of socialist left on its way to full blown communism, a new strain of communism.”

This is what the Democrat Party has in store for all of America.

“And then I asked…what if the best candidate happens to be by far the most qualified to be a professor to teach these students who are spending a tremendous amount of money on tuition, what is going to happen if the best candidate for the job is white, who is married and has a family? And I was told ‘No, you cannot select this candidate.'”

You think the Dem party runs Columbia university?

Funny that a guy who says he lived under communism does not seem to know what communism is. His employer, not the government, gave him certain guidelines when it came to hiring process, and he thinks its communism. Go figure.

That's who is teaching our young people. They go from school systems run by Democrat controlled Teacher's Unions like the AFT, and NEA that indoctrinate them with far left, progressive thought to universities that are full blown Communist. And we wonder why they say they hate Capitalism, and vote Democrat.

So you think that the Faculty and Administration at Columbia University are Republicans?

Funny how you think that racial discrimination by an employer is just peachy keen when the discrimination is against a white person.

Go figure.

Most people that come from former, or current Communist countries (Eastern Europe, Cuba, some parts of Asia, etc) don't want ANYTHING to do with today's Democrat Party as they see what Communist thought and policy did to them and their country. It is OPPRESSION, and CONTROL. That is what it always becomes. If you want to be a slave to your Government, vote Democrat.

That's not what he said. He was drawing a comparison to the environment not saying it was communism itself. Not sure why you're trying to knee-cap this guys story with misinterpretation.

Secondly, Columbia is lucky he didn't record those meetings and then present a candidate that wasn't "diverse". I believe that would violate several federal discrimination laws and would land the University in hot water.

Under federal law, employers cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability.
Basically, his employer told him to violate some combination of those 7 protected classes in hiring.

What would you do if your boss told you that you had to hire a white straight male for a job regardless of merit? I would imagine that it would upset you (and me), I just ask you to recognize that perhaps there is no acceptable defense for actions like that regardless of what race\gender\age etc. is being targeted.

If it were me, I'd have recorded all that information and then ignored their edict and waited for them to reprimand me...and then *boom*.

The "guidelines" were ridiculous.

Do I need to ask the question again? Why the dodge?

Its a private university, and nothing they did in this regard is communism. The guy, and apparently you, have no clue what communism is. If they want to hire a black gay person, then who cares? I sure don't, but it seems you'd prefer the government dictate who they should hire.
