Idaho wasn't always a politically conservative as it is now. 100 years ago, Idaho was largely radically socialist from the Canadian border to Boise.

For most of my 75 years here, Idaho has been only moderately conservative, with about 1/3 a liberal minority in the legislature and a Democratic governor leading the government. Whenever a Republican governor was elected, the legislature changed.

That was the steady pattern until the 1990s, when the Republicans began to slowly take over. After that happened, Idaho became the state everyone thinks it always was.

Nowadays, another swing is changing it once more.
There are fewer radical conservatives in office than there once were.
You know the state better than me, but I'm betting as Idaho grows and becomes prosperous under relative conservatism, radical leftist and low lives will worm their way in from places they've ruined. That seems to been the trend many other places.

In Idaho, as in Oklahoma, it will probably contrast out more and more as a rural vs urban situation for the lay of the politics. The declining rural counties with no or negative growth will reject anything resembling liberal or Democrat as usual.

That's the truth... I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and all the Californian transplants totally screwed up the Western half of the State.

Seriously, they screwed up their own State and fled to another State... But the problem is that they tend to bring all their BS with them and oddly enough, screw up their new adopted State. Basically, a pack of locus. Destroying everything in their path and then move to another location to destroy.

On the national political stage it is very true.
I don't know of any exception.

Those are great ideas. I will have to bring them up at the next meeting.

The problem is, the urban leftists will not be content for very long to allow the rural areas to live as they have always lived, but will pass laws telling rural folks (whose lifestyle they know nothing about and don't want to know) how they have to live. It is happening in every state with an infestation of leftists growing in their urban centers.

‘Go back to California’: Wave of newcomers fuels backlash in Boise

Just consider last week’s mayoral election. It was the most competitive race in recent memory, a referendum on growth in the rapidly expanding capital of Idaho. And candidate Wayne Richey ran on a very simple platform: Stop the California invasion.

His basic plan to fulfill that campaign promise? “Trash the place.â€

Richey figured that would be the best way to keep deep-pocketed Golden Staters from moving to his leafy hometown. He blames them for pushing home prices and rents up so high that Boiseans can’t afford to live here on the meager wages most Idaho jobs pay.

At a candidate forum in late October, he had a terse answer for the question: “If you were king or queen for the day, what one thing would you do to improve Boise?â€

“A $26-billion wall,†he said, laughing, drawing out each word for maximum emphasis. As in build one. Around Idaho.

...
The most recent Treasure Valley Survey, conducted by the Idaho Policy Institute at Boise State University, does not bode well for anyone who would run this city in coming years. It was conducted in late 2018 and released in June. More than 70% of respondents said the region was growing too fast, compared with only 50% with that view in 2016.
I'll bet Texas wishes the same.

This is simply the circle of life. It's is the story of every city that becomes popular. There's an influx of people that drives former residents out due to price increases.

I guess we should all start railing against retirees who decide to move to Idaho from expensive states too? They should stay where they belong amirite?

I do think it looks exactly like Reno. So if that’s the look drawing them, they have a version of it much closer. The thing to remember is, Idaho does not draw liberals. Everyone knows how conservative it is. So maybe Boise should be more welcoming of their fellow conservatives.

Boise is growing. Fast. That's undeniable. With that type of rapid growth comes an increase in real property prices because the supply can't meet the demand.

Are the people moving there really mostly Californians?

...The No. 1 state for net outmigration was Arizona, which added 32,326 more Californians that who departed for the Golden State. No. 2 was Oregon, 29,561 more Californians in than losses to the Golden State. Next in the rankings came moves between Nevada, with California outmigration of 23,745; Texas (22,175); Washington (19,341); and Idaho (15,746)...

Idaho's got a lot of catching up to do to match AZ and OR for inbound Californians.

23,108 1,068.74 plus 6.925% of the amount over 23,108

Can anyone explain to me why they have so many tax brackets so low? Do they like complicated? They could likely accomplish the above with 2 or 3 brackets.

Idaho property taxes are very low. Like $980 on a 290K house.

I would love to see a total state tax comparison for certain situations like a family of 4 earning 75K. Some states top rates are at like 10K, generally GOP states. Some are at a million, generally deep blue states.
