It is not the witnesses job. Your opinion here is equivalent to asking your mechanic if you need chemo therapy, mechanic won't answer, and you say "guess that proves I don't need chemo then"

Regardless of what the witnesses " job " is, probing questions can be helpful in many ways. Indeed , the lack of an answer is very telling. Answers, or lack there of, can certainly point in the direction for more questions to be asked.
