Shall we hold Stephen Paddock’s monther, in her 90’s, responsible for the Las Vegas mass shooting?

There are likely no people more shocked than the parents, upon learning their child, adult or underage, went off on a violent rampage.

“A Mother’s Reckoning” is a book written by the mother of one of the Columbine shooters. Just days before intending to blow up the school, he attended a formal dance and had a great time. He was their “ sunshine boy”.

School is usually where your kid gets bullied, beat up, teased, ridiculed and harassed, and now with social media, they get it from fellow classmates there as well. It's usually the cliquish "cool kids" doing all of this too.

Really the only way to hit the reset button where we all come together will be a world war.
Most people do not have the aptitude to teach, let alone the time.

Some people have been pining for the good old days and projecting America is crumbling, since the colonial days. The culture has been evolving for 400 years.

I guess if we view gang bangers and mass shooters as a way to eliminate the weak. Otherwise evolving might not be the best way to view it. Maybe cultural shift and not for the better.

I have to disagree, 400 years ago a significant portion of the U.S was degenerate and out of control, just because you don't here about it in your history books doesn't mean it doesn't or didn't happen society today in the U.S for example is seeing the lowest murder rate period in the last few years. The only comparable decade in terms of that specific crime is the 1950s. Going back 400 the murder rate was even higher than the 90s, and shootings were pretty much a daily occurrence, they weren't mass shootings but the 1600s were violent everywhere.

Condolences to the families, and I hope the kid that did this ends up in hell, or a nice jail where he will be loved. Of course, if he survives his own head shot.

SECRET SERVICE RELEASES NEW RESEARCH ON SCHOOL VIOLENCE
“Protecting America’s Schools: A U.S. Secret Service Analysis of Targeted School Violence”
(Washington, D.C.) - The U.S. Secret Service today released a new report on targeted school violence in the United States.
The study, Protecting America’s Schools: A U.S. Secret Service Analysis of Targeted School Violence, identifies 41 incidents of attacks against K-12 schools in the United States from 2008 to 2017. Researchers with the Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) have examined the background and behaviors of the attackers and identified a series of key findings and significant commonalities.
“Keeping schools safe requires a team effort, and I am proud to stand with our partners across the federal, state and local governments, our school boards, law enforcement and the public in this important work to better protect our children,” said U.S. Secret Service Director James M. Murray. “The Secret Service will steadfastly continue these collaborative efforts in support of our nation’s schools and communities.”
The report identifies ten key findings among the 41 incidents:
 There is no profile of a student attacker, nor is there a profile for the type of school that has been targeted.
 Attackers usually had multiple motives, the most common involving a grievance with classmates.
 Most attackers used firearms, and firearms were most often acquired from the home.
 Most attackers had experienced psychological, behavioral, or developmental symptoms.
 Half of the attackers had interests in violent topics, like the Columbine shooting or Hitler.
 All attackers experienced social stressors involving their relationships with peers and/or romantic partners.
 Nearly every attacker experienced negative home life factors.
 Most attackers were victims of bullying, which was often observed by others.
 Most attackers had a history of school disciplinary actions, and many had prior contact with law enforcement.
 All attackers exhibited concerning behaviors. Most elicited concern from others, and most communicated their intent to attack.
“School safety is our collective responsibility as a nation and we must remain one step ahead of tragedy,” said Dr. Lina Alathari, Chief of the National Threat Assessment Center. “The Secret
Service mission uniquely positions the agency to equip our schools with the most comprehensive intelligence in the development of prevention and threat assessment programs.”
Since the 1990’s, the Secret Service NTAC has been conducting research, training, consultation, and information sharing on threat assessment and the prevention of targeted violence. NTAC has studied attacks directed at government agencies and officials, workplaces, and schools, colleges, and universities. This systematic approach identifies individuals who may be exhibiting threatening or concerning behavior and assessing the risk posed by the individual. The continuous academic and research-based approach to studying indicators of acts of violence supports the Secret Service's protective mission and our nation's effort to better protect our communities. In July 2018, the Secret Service published Enhancing School Safety Using a Threat Assessment Model: An Operational Guide for Preventing Targeted School Violence and defined a model for the creation of school threat assessment programs.
NTAC will hold additional presentations of this research in the coming weeks in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami for executives, administrators, law enforcement and other relevant stakeholders.
The Secret Service will continue to build on our threat assessment methodology and provide our research findings and approach to the public and private sectors to enhance prevention efforts of those charged with safeguarding our nation.

This story will change dozens of times over the next few hours. I heard in Fox News a little while ago that the shooter was a loner type who participated on the track team. His father an avid hunter with many guns passed away recently from a heart attack.

In the case of school shooters, the parents have to be held accountable..."Little Johnnie" sent up many warning signs before he took your gun and slaughtered his classmates...negligent or enabling parenting allowed these school shootings to happen...when your kid has pipe bombs in their bedroom (Columbine) or tin foil over their windows and you give them guns and take them to shooting ranges(Newtown)you become culpable...wake up American parents stop worrying about your own social/career lives and pay attention to your kids...these little psychopaths didn't birth themselves...

Who gives there kids guns? Unless the child is your 18 year old, you dont.
People take their kids to ranges all the time, daily. But the guns are locked up at home. So, dont go around saying adults are giving kids guns... Thats not near the truth...
And why would you say parents should stop worrying about their social and career lives. Thats just stupid.
You can pay attention to your career/social issues and raise kids. Millions of parents do it every day.

And these little psychopaths. Very true. They are brought up in dysfunctional families, or have personal issues, or are depressed and given SSRI drugs to compensate.. These kids are ticking time bombs due to inadequate care and love/direction (Maslow 5 needs to survive?) in their lives. But, if you look at how many kids are on SSRI drugs, treated like crap, bullied, left out of reindeer games, very few go this far. .0001% maybe of the nation maybe.
Guns are not the problem, people are

It is a VERY sad when someone (me) can see the headline, and the first thought is "Well, at least only five were shot and only two died." After I thought that, I was both ashamed and upset with myself, and the fact that I lived just a little more than one mile from Columbine when that massacre happened is no excuse.

Anyway, unless ALL weapons are banned, and I don't see that happening (nor do I think it should).
