I know it sounds like something from sci-fi horror but I fear this is the most likely reality. Wealth inequality is extremely high and automation will only make it worse. At some point most of the world's population will become completely useless to the wealthy whom will simply isolate themselves from everybody else and live in fully automated high-tech paradises while everybody else rots. Once the rabble becomes too angry/dangerous the rich will just respond by unleashing a global holocaust that destroys everybody except themselves...
People --- human beings ---- will still have to play a role here. After all, who's going to repair the robots when they break down?
And I'm not all that worried about folks who make more money than I do or whatnot? You'll never have a perfect system, and life isn't supposed to be fair. Be happy with what you have.
Just finished reading “Don’t Be Evil”. Nice read if you want to know what the people in Silicon Valley think of lesser mortals. Not much. We are just a bunch of data.
I get my mail at a UPS store. Today I got a phone call from the Amazon driver saying he just delivered my package there. I was confused because the UPS store is closed Sunday. He told me the door was open and asked if he could just leave the package on the desk.
So this guy not only has to run around like a nut delivering packages, but has to call too?!
I work at the post office and we were all really happy when Amazon started delivering their own stuff. It was getting too crazy.
What isn't true? The information you present does not conflict with what I claimed.
What's not true is that the people with that collection of personality traits are more likely to end up in prison than the pinnacle of success. Contrary to what many believe, most psychopaths don't end up in prison and many are "successful."
Taxing the sold output, just like now. I'm not an accountant but I think they also tax inventory. One thing our government is exceptional at is creating new taxes and schemes to remove wealth from the people. They suck at everything else, but at least they get to claim they are good for something.
Could it be that we`re taxed because we`re heavily in debt? The deficit for October alone was $134 billion and we have revenues to pay for 1/4 of that. We all like our free stuff don`t we?
Same thing has been said before when machines were invented and later the computer was invented.
Still waiting for that to happen.
Yes, but the population is exploding, and many of these new "robots" are being used to do the work of low-skilled workers (such as fast food workers) who, as a group, reproduce more than the middle and upper classes do.
If this trend continues, I wonder how long it will be before the wealthy and/or "producers" get very tired of supporting those who don't work and "the elite"will decide to do something about that?
I don't foresee this happening for at least two more generations IF it happens at all, but I hope that there will be some other solution other than something like "The Final Solution" that the Nazis came up with to exterminate the Jews.

No doubt that development was quite welcomed to better survive the crazy Christmas time rush of packages.
There is alot of talk about robots today, but in reality, we are still quite a long way from having bipedal, humanoid robots, with some type of AI software, that can do anything a human can do, but 100X better,
I do think this will be one the biggest issues there are, in a decade or so.
When robots can be trusted to walk a dog, I think we'll be on the way for sure. Robots will only be able to advance for as long as they don't cause recessions or worse.

that is the destination of socialism
