BREAKING: President Trump has fired the Secretary of the Navy after publicly defying a direct order from the commander in chief.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper has asked for Navy Secretary Richard Spencer's resignation over his handling of the Eddie Gallagher case.
The Sec of Navy is in the chain of command and he needs to obey orders, even if he disagrees.
Liberals have trouble with this concept. Liberal minions in Dept of State have accused Trump of meddling in foreign policy, forgetting that Trump makes foreign policy.
Exactly! Career bureaucrats, regardless of how "special" and "important" they think they are, DON'T determine foreign policy.
Trump did not fire him. The Sec of Defense did. And he fired him because the guy was trying to cut a secret deal with Trump to give breaks to the SEAL that were against military policy. Trump might fire Esper (SoD) now, huh, for firing the guy Trump was trying to cut a secret deal with. What a mess!
Technically that is not Trump firing the Secretary of the Navy. That is the Secretary of Defense firing the Secretary of the Navy.
Not that Trump could not have directly fired him, but it appears that he did not do it in this case.
Oh no no no. You can't have it both ways. Either Trump is the ultimate authority in all matters military or he isn't. Since he is, he is also the one who fired the Navy Secretary.
You're right, technically speaking. SECDEF Dr. Mark Esper officially fired SECNAV Spencer, but firing a senior presidential appointee isn't something that is done without the blessing of POTUS.
In any event, this is good news. Its time for subordinate DoD leadership to recognize that they answer to POTUS, and not the other way around.
I was a Federal employee during the Clinton years.
Clueless, just awful as President when it came to public lands.
BUT he was the President, and I was not. So yep, I did what he told me.
I retired before Obama became President....wasn't go to do that TWICE.
Oh no no no. You can't have it both ways. Either Trump is the ultimate authority in all matters military or he isn't. Since he is, he is also the one who fired the Navy Secretary.
I love the brilliant logic at play here, either the CEO fires everyone that gets fired in a company or he's not the ultimate authority within the company.
You do realize that while the Commander in Chief has the authority to fire the SECNAV, the SECDEF also has that authority....it's not one or the other, in this instance it's both.
