You are afraid of competition but America needs it.

Sure...I'm so afraid of competition that I have to teach YOUR freshers the most basic of database tasks. They can't program to save their lives. It's a full-time job keeping them from destroying the barely-functioning architecture built by experienced "senior" H1Bs.

The only person in our department who DOESN'T hose down the production instances with liquid feces is the American developer. The sole American developer. You know, the one whose code actually works.

I think there are many cases where they are not but in any event industry rates are depressed by their presence. It's a simple matter of supply and demand. And I think employers should have to pay a 25% H1B tax on their industry rate as well. If it really is true that they cannot find an American qualified to do the job then they should have to pay a premium.

Depressed, maybe. It seems the wages stopped increasing at any significant rate about 15 years ago, which is more or less when they started to take over.

Right, you want the government to pay people to have kids? Ain't gonna happen.

We have full employment, and in many industries companies are not able to find qualified candidates top fill jobs. Our population is aging and we don't have enough young workers to fund Social Security for the retirees. Without fresh arrivals, our culture becomes stale and we lose what made America unique in the first place.

So we need more immigrants. But they should come in legally, be well-vetted and selected to meet specific needs

Just what are these jobs that we don't have enough qualified Americans for? Let our population age. So what? After the baby boomers die off we can finally stabilize our population growth. What you are advocating for is keeping the ponzi scheme going. Who's going to support all these new young workers when they are old enough to collect SS? Endless population growth?

We don't need new immigrant arrivals in large numbers. We are producing enough people of our own. How does a culture become stale? What does that even mean? We already are very diversified. How much more diversified can we get? We have our own uniqueness already and we aren't going to lose it. You're not making any sense here.

The only thing I agree with you is if and when we need more immigrants that they come here legally and meet the needs of highly skilled jobs not hamburger flippers and other minimum wage, low end jobs.
