I think people should do whatever they want at their own private dinner table. My family agrees politically so there's no need to discuss much. Others just enjoy arguing.
Politics rarely comes up in convo in my life except occasionally there are THOSE people who just HAVE to bash the President because it's the latest trend. Honestly people, if you didn't know squat or care about politics 4 years ago (and I've known you for decades you non voting fool) and just want to get in on the action now you're better off avoiding the subject now since you just sound silly.

It’s never come up. Despite a big range in political views, our family never brings up politics at holiday get-together. There are many more pleasant things to discuss, without controversy.
Things like upcoming vacation plans, grandkid antics, plans or progress on home renovations,
future purchases of cars or houses, promotions at work, and menu for Christmas dinner.
