Very good post, Americans are silly people with no culture, society, or aesthetic purpose/shared history. Just a bunch of money grubbing immigrants who live in sterile cities with the same architecture, work culture run by the same market forces/investors, and a consumer economy to replace all that is not there.

Consumerism is the only thing keeping this country together. If we didn't have celebrity sports, movies, and gadgets we would have no social connection.

People commute to work, and spend the rest of their family time watching dumb sports or some other hobby they use to mask the emptiness of their country.

People in this country don't care about anything. When 9/11 happened Bush told people to keep spending money, because that is all America is. A market place for big corporate supply chains. The reason all our jobs where shipped over seas is because the decision had nothing to do with people, just consumption rates.

Rather than get angry at the attackers, or show some hate, Americans wanted them to go away so they can get back to watching Sunday night football with their compatriots. They were annoyed, never angered. And they give there government a blank check to slaughter civilians as long as they keep their 'way of life' safe and protected.

CIA blacksites, the Patriots Act, and commercial banks liberally step on the constitution, but americans don't care because they want one thing, to keep the illusion going.

And people dedicate their lives to this stuff. Sports are games like capture the flag. They were made to have fun, not be turned into a billion dollar franchise for people to follow religously and eat up the character drama/competition. But they do because that is all they have.

And now that Kyrie is telling them its just a game and it doesn't matter, they get mad, because this is all they have. Professional sports is what keeps their families and friendships together, it is all they have outside of work. No community culture, fantastical traditions/festivals, or national identity, just dumb network competition for them to watch and increase ratings.

Kyrie telling them it doesn't matter sets them off because to them its all that matters. The rest of things in life are distractions.

And every four years that people wake up and realize politics is a thing, they just ask "what will you do for me?" They have no idea what indirect consequences are, or societal stability, that stuff is written off as 'personal choices' because people are lazy and overweight in this country.

When Bush invaded Iraq I wasn't mad at people for supporting it, I was mad because they didn't care. If you're going to be ignorant and angry do it, just believe in something, because at least that leads to character growth.

But Americans found it annoying, they couldn't even give the country they were bombing the time of day by learning how to pronounce it.

They were just mad this Osama and Saddam characters were on their tv screen when they wanted to go back to watching some other corporate provided good; they wanted there enemies gone so this interruption wouldn't happen again, not because they cared.

Americans are void and empty people.

Hmmm... you don't find it odd that Irving is trashing the very occupation he chose to do that has made him millions of dollars and changed his existence?

He needs to retire for mental health sake.

As for the rest of your post... sorry us Americans have let you down by being entertained by sports. You must hate the Super Bowl.

Kyrie has a right to take as much money as they give him.

He should use it to go on ski trips with his family, explore fantastical places, and not have to worry about some money lender coming and take his house.

The NBA should stop paying him if they don't like it, at least Kyrie isn't bowing to their every whim, or those of the fans who think he is just a product for their consumption.

He's not a wall street banker who inflates housing prices, just a guy who like shooting hoops.

And isn't that what this is about? Its just a game, its something you play to have fun like capture the flag. But its turned into professionalism and packaged on network tv for Americans to talk about, watch, and bond over, because that is all they have.

If the superbowl is the biggest socially unifying factor in our country, it shows people have nothing to share besides the stuff given to them by the investor class.

And they get angry because its more than just a game for them. Work and community are no longer cooperative so the things holding many social lives together including families are these dumb national sports teams. Its what they talk about, its their post-work life, and it drains thought and emotion about everything else.

Some people have different hobbies, like hockey, reality tv, etc. but it all comes down to ME and my personality, not the type of society we live in.

I find OP's soliloquy on the social fabric of society to be quite bewitching.

I don't disagree with a lot of this posting..... a lot of the country is fixated on consumerism.

Irving's rant is embarrassing. He has the literary skills and mindset of a 13-year-old.

Its the spirit of the post.

Reminding people basketball is just a game is too much for the dedicated fans who think it is their life.

And why not? Hobbies are what socially connect people. We have no culture, fantastical festivals, identity, or community economics.

What else is there left to do?

The guy hit the nail on the head, and he should keep accepting money as long as they give it to him, the NBA should stop giving him money if they're bothered by it.

At least Kyrie can use the money to keep the banks from taking his home like other people. He should enjoy his life because he knows this stuff is a game, not a career for living.
