Just saw this news article when looking at some other things and was a little surprised.

I used to live in Chicago and the police there would *never* have let things get to the point where criminals would feel comfortable to infest libraries like that. That's just not how Chicago rolled, they did a lot of stuff "off the books" if you catch my drift and the street hustlers all knew it. There were certain parks where you'd see all of that activity congregated and then other parks where you'd have the office workers etc. all sitting around unmolested for the most part.

Is the stuff going on in San Diego common where anybody else lives?

I have been inside a library in my home city in recent times. For the last 5-10 years or so, every time that I enter a library, I observe a variety of non-upstanding looking people. Libraries seem to be a magnet for the seedy.

They couldn't pay me enough. Between the homeless trying to live in them and the kids of illegals using it as an after school day care .... no thanks.

At our downtown main libraries, they've installed dozens and dozens of desks/computers with internet. Every one is occupied by the homeless. They line up outside before the library opens and camp at an internet station until it closes. The bathrooms are more like locker rooms, where they clean up, change clothes & drink alcohol. I asked a female librarian take my daughters to the bathroom when they were younger because I didn't feel safe with them in the bathroom alone, even if I was standing outside the door.

This is what happens when abnormal behavior is normalized. When you make libraries safe havens for people who should be institutionalized along side building increasing facilities, this is the result.

Well, it does sound like what happened to Astroworld.

All of the 7 librarians I've known have been liberal democrats. They voted themselves into this.

I'm actually ok with having a big building where the homeless can stay warm in the winter, surf the internet all day, use the bathroom as a locker room & stay sedated. Seems like a a perfect way to keep them off the streets.

I just don't want that place, to be the public library that my teenage daughters need to use for homework/school.

The homeless want a shelter with no rules. They want to be warm AND drunk/high. Free internet porn while being surrounded by kids .... what could go wrong?
