Maybe they wouldn't be asking it if you answered it.

The cost of monitoring this idea says it won't happen. Stores would have to change their registers to deny the other products & who will pay for that? It's just not feasible.

And remember - other people get hundreds of dollars. So you can't just look at someone who qualifies for $16 and cry "not enough to eat"! Sounds like that woman is "borderline," given her financial situation, and likely is nearing the limit for not qualifying for anything.
Her other income was less than $1000 a month SS, and a subsidized apartment. She still needed to pay rent, car insurance and repairs, cell phone etc. you may want to believe it’s easy to make it on a low income but there are many seniors who are cutting pills in half and going without enough to eat in this country. Millions of them. I worked with many of them in that county which again was rural farm community.

Wouldn't seniors who are that destitute have subsidized Medicare Advantage, which covers prescriptions? And/or Medicaid, which also covers prescriptions? Seems you're telling a rather tall tale just to slam others, class warfare-style.

there are single men in the service on food stamps?

or ...

there are servicemen who choose to get married and have large enough families that their income qualifies them for food stamps?

Would you suggest that a single female Sergeant get paid less than a married male Sergeant of same experience/grade with a wife and 3 kids?

my SWAG says maybe 2,000 families, with some assumptions the $120MM is the total cost over a 15 year lifespan.

Conversely, if we get $5B in savings from asking able-bodied, no-dependent adults to accept some responsibility, that's 500M each year, which is 109,000 families.

The new rule would:

1. stricter work requirements to be eligible for Snap
2. cap deductions for utility allowances.
3. restrict the way 40 states automatically provide Snap to families once they get other types of federal
assistance.

I'm not sure how this will hurt honest people.

Killing brown people? WTH are you talking about? Many poor white Americans are also on food stamps. Stick your race card where the sun don't shine!

That post you replied to was the soft bigotry of low expectations. Some people hear 'food stamps' and visions of dysfunctional brown single mothers surrounded by a dozen kids, with their hands out probably come to mind.

People who fall on hard times and need our assistance, is not a brown skin only kind of thing.
