That ended in 1990, which is 29 years ago now. Long time, over four dog years.

There was relative good relations with Russia, and this continued even in Putin's early years, however events in Georgia in 2008 and later in Crimea in 2014, saw Russia become an enemy once again.

As a consequence at the NATO meeting in 2014 it was agreed that the peace dividend was over and that a new target over 2% GDP should be aimed for over the next ten years.

Most NATO countries and especially those close to Russia have already increased defence spending as a result of renewed Russian aggression.

Lets also not forget that the vast majority of American bases in Europe closed as a result of the Cold War, and US Forces were reduced from over 350,000 in the 1980's to 120,000 by 1999 to less than 65,000 today.

And most of those 65,000 are rear echelon. By far the majority of US bases in Europe aren't there for defense of Europe, but to serve as a stepping stone for US power projection in the Middle East.

The heaviest permanent combat detachment is a Stryker brigade - and although I'm sure they'd make a good showing if called on, Strykers are light, thin-skinned and wouldn't last an afternoon when faced with heavy armor.

If the world leaders are counting on our President only serving one term, they will be in for a shock. Then the fun will begin watching them kiss his butt

How so? I thought for sure you were talking about Trudeau. He is the disgraceful one. Maybe you should have been more clear in your post.
