By that logic Ground Zero is just a hole in the ground. So you are ok with having Muslims having a call to prayer at Ground Zero then? or maybe building a Mosque next to it. Hey its just a hole in the ground after all?
Your just try to conflate things that aren't similar at all.
It's in bad taste. There were people that suffered there and were treated no different than pack animals. That is how slaves were viewed. These places shouldn't be used for celebratory events, they should be used as a reminder of the bleak history of this country. Would you feel the same way if people decided to hold celebratory events at concentration camps?
It's just bad taste and suspect to keep shoehorning slavery and negativity into it. If there was for example an historical castle or manor where good and bad things in its history happened and someone wanted to hold a positive event there, that's fine.
Progressives ALLOW themselves to be offended by everything and must get some kind of euphoria from banning things and CONTROLLING others. It needs to STOP. They are huge control freaks.
Good thing about these control freaks is they WILL NOT CONTROL WHO GETS ELECTED TO POTUS Trump will win and there is nothing they can do about it but continue to complain.....lol

If your ancestors were slaves at those plantations, I doubt you would care if it was bad taste or now. Slavery pretty much built those plantations, and those plantations kept up the cycle of slavery. When a region's way of life comes at your expense, or your ancestors' expense, you aren't going to care if it's bad taste.

And yet that poster thinks people speaking Spanish in a private conversation is in bad taste or offensive to his feelings. Go figure!

Next you could say Mt. Vernon is a place we can only go for condemnation. Some people focus exclusively on the negative as a contrivance to control others, and they are extremely ethnocentric or even have a thinly veiled deep hatred for this country and its people.

Yes, but a plantation existed for the sole purpose of exacting free labor out of people and owning a person’s body and the proceeds of their labor for the plantation owner’s gain.

I object to all the circumstances of their presence and why it is they are not communicating in English. Besides only communicating in a foreign language loudly in public is not private conversation, it's basically noise pollution and an ear sore.

Oh and I don’t need to inject negativity into slavery because it has plenty of negativity associated with it already. Slavery’s existence is a negative to start with so I don’t need to be “suspect to keep shoehorning slavery and negativity into it.”
