Look General Lee is seen as a great American General who was fighting for his home state and nearly won the war against all odds. He was a man of his era and most people aren't even thinking about the slavery aspect. I don't see any similarity to the foreign dictators of the more recent era. And frankly I don't care what foreigners do in their countries. I wished foreigners here would stop butting into things too.
Then why were the vast majority of the statues of Lee put up long after the civil war? I'll bet you'll be hard pressed to find many civil war monuments that were actually put up during the civil war era. A few, possibly, but the vast majority were put up during the civil rights era.
Maybe it's time for statues for the men and women of our era and not some long ago leaders of a war that threatened to tear apart our country.
I'm talking about the intent and motivation behind these types of things. You liberals explain way things case by case hoping we won't see the forest for the trees.

Is there nothing in Southern heritage worth recognizing except those 5 years where you threw away hundreds of thousands of lives in an attempt to keep human beings as chattel?
Blues, BBQ and bourbon. If you ever get down south we have some great little blues joints.

Well for starters, one doesn't usually commemorate historical figures until long after they've passed on.
the statue is beautiful. I thought the work of the artist was dreck after seeing his official Obama portrait and other works, but this statue has changed my mind. he is a talented artist.

For another they were put up to remind blacks of their place while they were fighting for their civil rights as American citizens.
Again if cities vote to remove that's up to their citizens. But that hasn't happened in this case anyone can put up any statue they want on private property.
We been through this already. The real intent based on long observations I believe is to denigrate and step by step tear down and replace every thing white. How much clearer can I make it?
Hate to break it to you, pal, but one day, all Americans will be shades of cafe au lait. Likelihood is that your child, grandchild and/or great grandchild will have mixed race children.
I notice you cast a lot of aspersions and shade on American heritage.
I notice you don't much care to stay on subject. Lee's achievements are nothing to be proud of, the color of his skin has nothing to do with that.

Nothing's stopping you. We certainly have a huge collection of skeletons in the closet. But we do try to learn from our national mistakes, and not glorify them. This Southern predilection for looking on the Lost Cause as some honorable undertaking and the antebellum days as a noble past - it is absurd.
