The long standing native and conservative culture, that you're trying to pretend doesn't exist while leftists work so hard to replace it.
The native culture would be native American, not civil war "heros". Sorry but conservatives do not have some right to keep others from from living by their beliefs nor from working through legal means to achieve their goals.
Ain't America great, land of the free with life and liberty for all (even those that you don't like)
Leftist have torn down a lot things throughout the country. You can google it. Not to mention I've watched neighborhoods being just colonized and altered by illegals and also legals within a few short years.
I notice you didn't answer my question.
So - I'll repeat it -
"But I think I am finally beginning to understand where you are coming from. Maybe. Do you think that there is room for only so many pieces of art in America, and that for every artwork that is acquired that features or is made by black people, an artwork that features or is made by white people is put out with the trash?"
This sounds more like fear and projection and retreat due to inability to support or articulate a position, more than an answer.
P.S. mt1 you have nothing to fear from this artwork. It is an addition and not a replacement for anything or anybody. It is a beautiful, strong, peaceful, hopeful problem solving gesture and gift to the city of Richmond and meant to be part of a solution to the complexities of the city's past. Such a shame that so many here on CD choose to be part of problems rather than part of problem solving.

I'm saying the intent and the action to tear down white art work is here now. And the pretext of slavery or supremacy or equality is given, but it is just a pretext. If they put this particular art piece up itself that's fine, but there is a long history of the left criticizing and tearing down that they can't hide from.

And I don't see this mass movement to replace white art with black art on wholesale basis.
Although you are implying that this particular statue of a black person should not exist. Aren't you?
Adolph Hitler was a progressive leftist just like these. He headed a Socialist Workers Party.
So name any right wingers who would do similar.
No he didn't. I'm so tired of hearing that line by people who obviously know nothing about the Nazi Party and their history.
I'm also amazed that a statue of a black man with dreadlocks would cause such consternation among people. And then the winking title of this thread. Pathetic.

The left wanted to tear down General Lee monument under a pretext, then they made this copy cat and now they wished they could place it where Lee's stands is what I believe. In other cases it's not to replace white art with black art but to just replace white art period.

Such comments don't come from ignorance, but gaslighting.

I'm not amazed. I knew some people would get upset to the point of frothing at the mouth. A statue showing a strong Black man scares and angers some people. And those same individuals love Robert E. Lee and want to see his statues stand. It's about what it stands for. Confederate statues were erected as a tribute to the Confederates and what they stood for, the Confederate cause. Slavery was over, the Confederacy was no more. However, there were still those who wanted to keep that Old South hierarchy, with Blacks at the bottom, to be subjugated. Erecting those Confederate statues was about honoring a cause that was dedicated to keeping slavery and the Black population subjugated.
This is why there are people who are those who get angry at seeing a statue of a strong Black man on a horse. It's an affront to the Confederate cause. In a city like Richmond, which was once the capital of the Confederacy, some people see the statue of a strong, regal Black man on a horse as offensive. It goes against what some people believe a Black man should be. The Confederate cause was heavily rooted in keeping the Black population subjugated and enslaved. That statue of a Black man on a horse is the very opposite.

So a statue of Robert E. Lee represents white art? What is white art in your mind?
This began as an interesting debate, but it sure has taken on the looks of the "losing my unearned privilege is actually oppression" line of thinking we've come to know and loathe.
