Indian Tribes are being threatened by the governor of SD to take down their coronavirus checkpoints:

The tribes don’t want the virus to get on to their reservation. I think they have the right to close their tribal borders if they wish.

They remember small pox blankets.

I really don't care if they are government owned roads, for all the crap we did to the NDNs, I'm all for their checkpoints.

Leave them alone. They're simply asking that people go around. Let them do it.

And Indian tribes are ignoring "lockdown" regulations in most (all?) states and opening casinos. They obviously don't care about lives, just the chance to get money from others.

If the tribes want to close their borders-we need to go both ways. Live on the res? You're in quarantine and aren't allowed to leave.

It does go both ways. No one is being picked on. There are times when travel off a rez isn't allowed, too.

Each tribe has its own government. There is no grand poombah of American Indians. Things (what, when, and how) a tribe returns to open status is very individual. Just like States are navigating this.
