If Trump was truly a threat to rule of law/civic order I'd actually consider supporting him.

William webster 95 years old.
Do you think someone automatically stops function in their 90s? I know someone in his late 90s still working - as a lawyer.

Webster sounds more coherent in his 90s than Trump does in his 70s.

Some interesting commentary from former federal (SDNY) prosecutor Andrew McCarthy on the FBI and independence. From his recent book Ball of Collusion:

Quote:
…[James] Comey was ostentatiously disdainful of politics--the personification of progressive theory that the Justice Department and FBI should be so insulated from their political superiors...that they effectively become an independent, unaccountable fourth branch of government...

The FBI defied the Constitution's grant to the people's representative of the power to monitor the activities....of agencies such as the FBI, which Congress created, regulates by law, and funds with taxpayer dollars....

Under Comey's direction, the FBI decided not to inform Congress about the Crossfire Hurricane probe....(p.216)
McCarthy goes on to describe how Rep. Elise Stefanik (R,NY) took Comey apart over this issue in a house intel committee hearing.

In short, if Webster wants an independent FBI, he needs to run a constitutional amendment, and create an additional branch of government. Good luck with that.

He worked for the same agency that let Hillary off the hook, but whines about Trump being a threat to the rule of law?

Funniest joke I heard all day.

OK, point taken. Maybe OP can run with that constitutional amendment to create another branch.

Andrew McCabe, former Dep. Director and acting director for a short time of the FBI, says a similar thing about the need for FBI independence in his book.

Unfortunately for Webster, Comey, and McCabe, the US Constitution says otherwise. The question becomes: are they really that ignorant, or are they dissimulating?

100% they know it would require a constitutional amendment.

They are lying because the amount of money and power that an American Praetorian guard could wield is intoxicating.
