while 50% disapprove.

Similar to past surveys, this poll showed significant gaps in views of the president among various subsets of the military.

Quote:
Trump is far more popular with enlisted service members than with officers. Among the enlisted force, the recent survey showed a 43 percent favorable rating. For officers, however, only one-third responded with a positive view.

Military men appear to be more supportive of Trump compared to military women. Among men, the survey shows a 43 percent favorable view, while among women service members, 53 percent of women expressed a “very unfavorable” rating of Trump and 56 percent responded negatively.

Eh, the same poll had his approval rating among military members at 46% in 2016, yet he still won over a solid majority of active duty military members in the actual vote count.

While anecdotal, my fellow military service member friends who are traditionally conservative (and will be voting for POTUS in 2020) but who would be among the "disapprove" crowd generally do not like the intervention in some of the military specific cases that POTUS has involved himself in. But they tend to approve of POTUS generally.

In any case, if Dems think this means they will win the military vote in 2020, I have a bridge to sell them.

We all know how accurate the polls are these days. I'd say Trump support by active military and police officers is closer to 70% if not higher. These types of jobs appeal to harder core conservatives by nature with nary a liberal to be found.

But you have to admit, foreign policy and the military is one of Trump's weaker arenas and he's made a lot of decisions the military has not been pleased with. I can see those who don't care about issues like abortion, homosexuality, and other cultural issues breaking with Trump. I agree with you on police officers, especially since it's Trump and the GOP fighting to keep cannabis illegal and the Left wants it legal. Cannabis prohibition is a cash cow for law enforcement agencies.

Very surprising. I think traditionally military would overwhelmingly support a sitting president.

I'd be surprised if it was legitimately that low. Being a veteran that isn't THAT far removed from active duty, I know more people in the military than most and while I know people of all political leanings that serve, the vast majority are right leaning and support for the president is very strong among active duty and veterans. This would appear to either be an outlier or a flawed poll because I strongly doubt the support for the president would be south of 60% among enlisted.

Yup. Same here. In my circle of veterans support for Trump is 100%.
