For some interesting historical perspective, watch the movie Trumbo. He was a communist and a talented screenplay writer who worked in Hollywood. He fell into the McCarthy-era buzzsaw and was blacklisted. His only friends back then were Democrats — the same folks today who see a Russian spy behind every tree.
