It appears that Senators on both sides of the aisle believe that there will be a Senate impeachment trial in the Senate soon after the new year and that any perceived impediments will be quickly resolved.
Senators from both sides of the aisle appeared optimistic Sunday a deal would be reached by party leaders to hold an impeachment trial in the Senate once lawmakers return after the holidays.
Mr. McConnell, though, is insisting President Trump have the same impeachment process afforded to President Clinton where the Senate agreed to hear from the House managers presenting their argument supporting the articles of impeachment and allow the president’s team to respond before the senators wrestle with the issue of witnesses.
“I think there will be an agreement and this trial will go forward,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar told CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“Once the House has spoken, the speaker doesn’t get the decision as to whether or not she transmits that decision to the Senate. In my view I think we will have this all handled once we get back in January,” Mr. Blunt told CNN.

This looks right. Nancy and the children over on the House side have had their fun. Now it is time to let the grownups finish this thing.
the "deal" that nancy wants is the one where the senate will vote to remove trump from office. the democarts dont want a fair trial for trump, they want him gone.
i can see it now, trump wins acquittal in the senate trial, and the democrats try to impeach him a second time next year before the election. if that happens without just cause, them the democrats will be solidly beaten in the general election.
There was a separate debate and vote on whether to close the Senate during debate before the votes on the articles of impeachment. The motion to close passed 53-47. The debate in private that followed was one of the most thoughtful and dignified I ever participated in during my 24 years in the Senate.
So it was handled in a respectful, adult-like manner, in contrast to what we have seen in the US house over the past few weeks. Given what happened in the Kavanaugh hearings in the Senate last year, I am not optimistic that the current Senate trial will go so well.
...one plausible notion came from Hill columnist A.B. Stoddard, who keeps a close eye on Democrats. Party leaders have their eye on the ongoing investigations into Trump, Stoddard said on Fox News Thursday. What about reports of Russian money going to Ukraine figure Lev Parnas' wife? What are prosecutors in the Southern District of New York doing? Is something big coming? There is, Stoddard said, "a lot of pressure on Democrats to wait this out until there is more to throw at the president."
But the article points out that if there is a significant delay, there is nothing in the Constitution that would prevent the senate from dismissing the articles of impeachment, whether they have been 'transferred' or not.
Surely Trump wants all the witnesses with first hand knowledge of his innocence to testify and clear him, don't you think...?
How many times do you folks have to be reminded that it's not up to the accused to prove his innocence?
