Legally, yes. 16th amendment makes it constitutional for the government to collect income taxes. If they want to pass a universal healthcare law and collect taxes from you to pay for it, they have full legal authority to do so.
Now if universal healthcare ever happens, chances are you'll be paying less for it than you do now for private insurance. And as soon as you go in for a procedure you'll be getting your money's worth for your taxes. Everybody pays, everybody benefits. No need to be jealous that somebody's getting something you're not.

Those children you don’t want to feed ~ might be the ones changing your diaper in the future, teaching your family members how to read, saving you from a fire when you forgot to turn off the stove, grabbing that thief who crawled in your window while sleeping, fixing that road on the way to your doctors - the dentist that pulled your rotten molar, the mayor, the young man who goes to war to protect democracy. Please do move to a secluded island, the world might be better if those with the same thought patterns move out and live far from the rest of us who understand community.
Remember that drug costs are high in the US because we subsidize drug research costs for the rest of the world, hence allowing the same drugs to be sold for super cheap in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. NOtice how nearly all drug research takes place in the US because there's no financial incentive for other countries to research new medications. If people in Canada and Europe paid more for the medications developed in the US, then our drug costs would be lower. But liberals like redistributing American wealth to the outside world, things like NAFTA and the WTO are designed for this purpose.
Which brings up the question of who will fund and do this research when the financial incentives are stripped from the drug companies. People forget just prior to and during WWII many big drug companies worked for the governments inventing drugs to aid in war, not to cure the masses. Let's hope we don't have to create another world war to attract the drug companies back into research mode.

That's total BS as long as 45% of US 1040 filers pay no federal income tax whatsoever. What makes that 45% less responsible for funding "society" than the 55% who are forced to contribute?

Very clearly NOT true as 45% of all US 1040 filers (62.1 million out of 138 million total) pay no federal income tax whatsoever. WWG1WGA. Either everyone pays, or no one pays. No more enslaving some to the exclusive benefit others.

Actually the poorer donate more than the rich - and upper money is mostly republican. Google it.
