1. Trump supporters often conflate seeking asylum with illegal immigration. One is legal, one is not.
2. Republicans are not financially or ideologically in favor of identifying and deporting every illegal immigrant here. That would require a broad expansion of powers, something like you saw after 9/11, where Sikhs and other non-whites were unconstitutionally detained with suspicion that they may be in the country illegally. Deporting everyone here illegally would be very difficult, and surly result in many US citizens of Hispanic origin being unlawfully detained.
3. Republicans are unwilling to do 2. because Hispanics are the only minority group that will vote Republican. Black and Asian support for the Republican Party is nonexistent, and they don’t want to lose the Hispanic vote that they have in places like Arizona and Texas.
4. Republicans will not do 2. because Republican farmers across the Midwest are reliant on illegal labor. Republicans want to leave illegal immigrants in limbo, because that is good for business.
The Democrats are much more pragmatic. If both Republicans and Democrats lack the will to deport everyone illegally here, then there ought to be a path to citizenship.
The Dems know that they're going to lose the battle in 2020 but will eventually win the war when their beloved illegals have firmly taken hold of the electorate and vote 90% democrat they way black voters do.
Pelosi, Schumer, et al. will be long gone when that happens but their plan to embrace illegals and change the voting demographics of the country will be their lasting legacy.
The Democrat party will reign for 1000 years! Hmm, when did we last hear that?

Over the last several decades, Democrats have stood for some good things like rights for women and minorities, social programs and things like that.
However, I cannot for the life of me understand why Democrats would support illegal immigration, sanctuary cities and a very lax enforcement of our borders. What in the world causes them to be compassionate about people who broke laws and came into the United States illegally? This is essentially saying that the United States doesn't have a right to its own sovereignty. It is the death knell for our nation.
Remember that when you ask ANY democrat, they all deny that they support illegal immigration (despite supporting sanctuary cities, opposing deportation of illegals, and voting for candidates who support open borders).
It is a sort of cognitive dissonance, in that they cannot admit to themselves that they are on the side of lawlessness and chaos, so they tell themselves they do not support illegal immigration (despite actively doing so with their votes).
I think it is disingenuous to blame the Dems solely for the issue of illegal immigration when the Republicans have done nothing about the issue either since the 80's when Reagan gave blanket amnesty to 3 million.
The fact that we have Sanctuary cities is a result of the Federal Government not enforcing immigration policy which is a Federal construct.
You are always going to have people who view illegals as "humans" instead of "criminals" as many here like to label them.
There is plenty of blame to go around on both sides.
The country can handle a certain amount of incoming poverty and in turn give opportunity for prosperity. However, if you open the flood gates, it will destroy the country. Think of it like a vaccine... a small amount the body is capable, a large amount kills the body.
Far too any democrat and RINO politicians are traitors. They shouldn’t be eligible to hold those positions. Any politician or law enforcement supporting illegal immigration should be arrested and prosecuted. A sanctuary city or state should even be a possibility.
The illegal immigrants will continue their quest to enter the US as long as employers keep hiring them. It’s convenient to blame the illegals but why don’t we enforce the laws for employers? How many employers went to jail for hiring these people? The illegals wouldn’t come here in such numbers if they couldn’t make a living.
