Every time you see the word "government" replace the word "swamp". Things will make a lot more sense that way.

In these negotiations, we have to take steps backwards before we'll make significant forward progress. We also have to be a LOT more patient than China to get our way. We have their heads in a vice, and we are turning it tighter 1mm/day....its slow dredging, but its a Chinese torture test in reverse. They will crack, but this could take 2+ years. Watch their GDP. If it continues this declline trajectory, it could take less time.

After Trump's re-elected, that could allow Trump to break their backs. They cannot afford to wait this out for 5 years until Trump's gone if the GDP decline continues.

Yeah I'm sure its just a coincidence that threads like these are divided right down party lines.

So are you opposed to tariffs on principle? Should private businesses be free to make their own trade agreements? Should tariffs that tax the american consumer in order to subsidize failing, inefficient US based industries be abolished?

^^^^^This! All of it. Thank you. Remember the vast majority of Progressives are stuck in Gender and Minority Studies and Sociology mode. They don't know anything about Business, Finance, nor Economics. This is Negotiating 101 and Trump is a master at it.

Frankly, I don't know why anyone would support such taxes, especially people who have called themselves conservatives in the past.

Results? Our 2018 trade deficit set a record that will be surpassed in 2019.

Here is a direct quote from your post "The "D"s did have zero tariff agreements with EU and most of Asia," I just proved, in the very post you quoted that you your statement is factually incorrect and DOES have to do with your false statement. China IS most of Asia.

Why would you think conservatives support it? Use facts.

Yes "calling" themselves conservative, key word is calling

What I said is factually correct. Sorry if you find it offensive.

This is why trade wars and tariffs have been shunned by Republican orthodoxy for many years. Trump of course won't listen to anyone and his base believes anything he says.
No doubt. So is corporate tax. Let’s abolish both tariffs and corporate taxes.
