If you go digging into the claims behind these fears, you'll discover some truly wild conspiracy theories. Some people claim that 5G is in the same wavelengths as weapons. Or that it's being used by the military to break the enemy's spirit.
People have argued that the smaller wavelengths used in each new generation of mobile phone infrastructure have never been tested, and therefore we are guinea pigs for this technological experiment. By and large, claims about the harms of 5G are not far from gay frog conspiracies.
You'll be happy to know that none of those claims are true.

So, why are people so scared? Fears of electromagnetic radiation are nothing new; the most simple explanation is that the promise of a 5G rollout is just bringing up the same old technology concerns people have had for decades - just dressed up in a new guise.
"The exposure levels for the general public will be well below the limits set by ICNIRP, the international review agency linked to WHO," says Wood.
"The prevalence of phone handsets has gone from zero in the early 80s to over 90 percent of the Australian population now, without an appreciable change in brain cancer rates."
But experts have noted that maybe, just maybe there is one source we can blame for this uptick in 5G phobia: Russia.
"There's a theory around that the Russians want to slow the 5G roll-out in the West, to enable their technology to catch up," says Wood.
Im hoping home 5G will break the cable-phone dualopoly on internet providers.
Here they charge the same ~70 bucks a month for ~40mbits. I chose the cable company only because the phone company was every nightmare you can imagine super high pressure telesales boiler room. The cable company was at least, polite.

Ha, I've had the opposite experience! Either way, though, both cell companies and cable companies are awful.
But that has nothing to do with 4G vs 5G, and I don't understand the scare stories. Reminds of Y2K scare stories, but with even less basis in fact.
There are A LOT of people sounding the alarm about the possible health risks associated with the effects of the wavelengths used by these phones and towers on the human body. There are also a lot of people and government related groups insisting that there is nothing to worry about, so full steam ahead.
It is not clear who is right. But considering that 5g is apparently coming and is expected to be ubiquitous, we are getting ready to find out.
False claims that 5G telecommunications technology causes a host of serious illnesses are "very likely" being amplified by the Kremlin's media network and being repeated by Australians, according to new analysis.
Russia's broadcaster RT (formerly known as Russia Today) and other alternative media websites are likely behind the uptick in 5G phobia in Australia, says Bret Schafer, a disinformation and media fellow at the US-based Alliance for Securing Democracy, a pro-democracy group funded by non-government sources.

RT is a Kremlin-sponsored global media network that promotes an anti-Western worldview, sometimes with the help of disinformation.
This rise in 5G fears, including the notion that the technology causes cancer, comes as anti-5G activists increasingly gather in real life to dispute the science. In July Australians, directed by a Facebook page, gathered for a "Community Forum Exploring the Hidden Dangers of 5G Radiation" in Sydney, according to a tech industry report.
Why would Russia do this? They say...
"Hampering the West’s adoption of 5G networks, for example by hobbling democratic decision-making by inducing regulatory or legal battles about 5G’s adverse health effects, would be a boon for the Kremlin’s own pursuit of the technology," EU-funded counter-propaganda organisation EUvsDisinfo stated in May.
... RT's coverage promotes the supposed benefits of 5G technology when discussing it in the context of China and Russia, reflecting the strategic interests of the Kremlin.

By this logic, wouldn't this concern be applicable to each of the first 4 Gs of cells?
The physical infrastructure of 5G is probably the biggest impediment. In the city, they can hide the boxes on buildings and other places. In the picturesque town I grew up in, the local government has been suing verizon/etc because they are pretty unsightly.
A relative has a physics PhD, electricity and magnetism. He expressed no concerns when I asked about 5G.
He had a real concern when the 1st cell phones came out.
And he would not want a pregnant woman living or working next to a high line.
It's either harmless or he gave up.
