A 1999 article based on a 1995 study? China doesn't look all that doomed now. What ever happened to the "time bomb"?

China just goes in without dropping bombs or shooting and takes over by investing and buying into their interests without getting into 20 year wars with no end in sight....

But then again China doesn't pretend they are doing it for the benefit of democracy , it is about self interests period.

China has started to aid Africa in the 1950s, in Mao's era.
My friend's father spent ten years in Tanzania and Zambia, helping them building railways. And that is why he is 10 years younger than his brother.
This article is a serious insult to these people.

We don't need the Chinese for anything.

There are plenty of Americans who understand that so-called democratic/republic bipartisan system is political theater, a charade, a place to come for entertainment, to laugh, and, at best, a mere stage for play-enacting policy which is actually made elsewhere.

Actually substitute the words China for Britain in your post below and you have a fairly good analysis of the British Empire which was started by Chartered Trading Companies and was largely based on the locals policing themselves and local leaders being kept happy by the money made from trade.

Britain had very few troops based in Empire and was a Naval power, it also invested heavily in infrastructure such as the vast rail system in countries such as India, as well as trading ports and agricultural irrigation. Britain mainly operated out of self interest and profit, although it did sometimes take a moral stance in relation to the enforcement of the slavery ban and in relation to stopping certain brutal local practices in places such as India.

As for taking a back seat, most countries are quite happy to, as war is an umpopular and costly business that is best avoided.

China's future isn't set in stone, it has a looming and unsolvable demographic crisis, it's economy is not stable and is facing strong headwinds, it has a looming real estate bubble, etc etc etc. 8nvestkents in the Belt And Road project don't guarantee it stability and progress either; investing in unstable countries is a gamble and one that usually doesnt pay off.

The US shouldn't rest on its laurels but honestly the greatest achievement China has made in the last couple decades aside from its growth is convincing large swaths of naive peasants all over the world that it is unassailable, unstoppable, and that it's rise is guaranteed.

The same people who think that the US is going to suddenly topple and remind you that no one is safe are the same ones who will tell you China is about to rule the world and nothing can be done to stop it. Lol.

Except that China is dealing with a rickety credit system, terrifying demographics, and a Belt and Road initiative is beginning to show signs of malinvestment. Not to mention the pushback the Chinese are beginning to experience by countries for the strings being attached to its deals.

Interesting that the poster from China tells us not to pay attention to the Chinese.

Kinda like the wizard telling us to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, eh?

Or maybe "don't wake the sleeping dogs.......yet"
