It's the dominant voice in our society and when you get down to it, the only voice that really matters. You have to hand to Trump, he's managed to take all legitimacy and voice from citizens of this country who aren't his base. Trump's base = America and everyone else is human scum.

You should have learned some lessons from Vietnam. We couldn't defeat a bunch of farmers hiding in tunnels, so what makes you think we can defeat a nation with sophisticated weaponry ?

We are good, but we are not the only armed force on the planet now.

President Trump’s ‘Perfect’ hit on Qassim Soleimani, Head of Iran’s International Terror Group (aka Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force) may actually be a brilliant chess move in the Middle East.

First, the Big Picture:
What is the #1 objective in Iraq? To get the hell out;
What is the #1 objective in Iran? To finally destroy their nuclear capability.

By killing arguably the ‘Most Wanted Terrorist in the World’, in Iraq, it may get Iraq’s Parliament, which has become increasingly influenced by Iran(Iraq's powerful Shiite militias are aligned with Iran against U.S. Forces), to close the United States Embassy and pull ALL US troops out of their country.

Objective #1 in Iraq – ACHIEVED

And killing Iran’s #2 most powerful man lures an outraged Iran to respond militarily, prompting an even larger military response by the US. And this time the US won’t be dropping pallets of cash! It will be another Shock & Awe only with technology and capability unheard of almost twenty years ago. And once the USAF and Navy have established air superiority and neutralized Iran's air defenses, B-52s could then lumber in and drop 20,000 pound MOAB and 30,000 pound MOP bombs to penetrate and destroy Iran's fortified underground nuclear industry.

Objective #1 in Iran – ACHIEVED

Side Benefits:
  • Removes and/or minimizes US targets for future attacks;
  • Stimulate rise of anti-Ayatollah protests may finally lead to a leadership change to a more civil political government in Iran;
  • Iraq will be free to establish whatever government its people wishes;
  • Minimum casualties: most attacks will be carried out from a stand-off position so there would be no need for boots on the ground;
  • Iran’s neighboring countries and Israel could breathe easier now that the regional bully has been knocked out;
  • Sends clear messages to other terrorist factions (and North Korea) that the US is under new management, and there will no longer be tolerance of terrorist blackmail throughout the world. Plus – no more ‘Apology Tours’.
  • This time our military personnel will not be hand-cuffed with ridiculous rules of engagement that restrain their effectiveness resulting in another quagmire. Plus – Navy ships won’t be seized and detained, and our sailors humiliated.

All terrorists in the entire world can no longer sleep easy while watching the night skies for ‘Death From Above’ fearing being turned into Hellfire Shawarma.

Finally, President Trump is NOT diverting attention away from the Impeachment Proceedings (which are already dead in the water). He is actually trying to finally achieve the best results to decades-long objectives in the Middle East that his predecessors could not or would not attempt. This is NOT Wag the 'Dog’, it’s Wag the Ayatollah!
How pathetic that you say those goals have been achieved.

They most certainly have not and anyone can see it. Iran has now indicated that they will not abide by ANY portion of the Iran Agreement and will push further forward with their nuclear plan.

Jesus Christ.

At least be honest about what is what.

Afganistan and Iraq had no counters to our military yet we are STILL THERE. This idea that you bomb a place and go home without long term effects is stupid. Every country we have engaged with since WW1 still has an American military presence and at this time No one even knows what the mission is or why were are in many of these places.

Do any of us know why we are still in Afganistan or Iraq now? Do any of us know how long we would get stuck in Iran? Middle East countries are still fighting 1000-year-old wars, it is silly to think we can drop a few bombs and that will be the end of it.

Where did all the Libertarians on this forum go?

I did learn lessons from Vietnam, many.

The most important are:

1. don't hamstring your warriors by allowing politicians to impose Rules of Engagement to impede their effectiveness as a fighting force;
2. provide you fighting force with the most up-to-date weapons technology;
3. switch from boots on the ground strategy of policing terrorism with surgical strikes;
4. provide all of the components of our military the ability for real-time communication with each other in order to be involved in coordinated mission strategies;
5. have a clear exit strategy

The combined armed forces of the United States currently have much better, and more advanced technologies than we did 20 years ago for the second Gulf War (which BTW I was adamantly against!), and I believe they will prevail easily over the antiquated Iranian Air Force and scant air defenses.

PS: you might also 'learn some lessons' about the current capabilities of the United States Armed Forces - they are second to none!

This post is worse than "Mission Accomplished" by GW Bush in Iraq when we absolutely had nothing accomplished but killing Saddam. And it became a complete mess and we lost tons of soldiers still after..
