Oh, I think most misdemeanors definitely don't need bail. But I saw a list (haven't been able to find since) that showed the charges for which bail would no longer apply.
I'd say someone that violates a protective order needs to be in jail pending bail. Same for any use of a gun in commission of a crime. Same for serious assaults. Same for manslaughter. Same for felony DWI. An assaulter committing hate crimes? They need bail, not a free release.
Low-level drug crimes (possession, some first offense small amounts PWISD, etc), simple assaults, and many non-violent crimes don't need bail.
there's an old saying - don't do the crime if you can't do the time. There's certainly some offenses that "don't do the crime if you can't post the bail" also applies to.
We'll see. DeBlasio AND Cuomo are calling for amended terms.

gotta keep those wife beaters out on the street to beat and kill.
He's not assumed guilty, but neither has he been cleared of the charge. Would you prefer to take the chance that he is guilty and put him back on the street to kill again? That is exactly what happened with the anti-Semite who assaulted the Jew - she was released without bond, and then attacked again. Why are you erring on the side of criminals rather than the innocent people they endanger?
What would you rather have, freedom and liberty or safety and security? Safety/security were never guaranteed in this country but freedom and liberty were! Ever heard the old saying, " Give me liberty or give me death"...I think today its more like, "Give me safety or give me death!
We cannot base laws and treatment of suspects off what someone MAY do, this is one of the major principles of the US system of justice for petes sake! People MUST be assumed innocent (before proven guilty in a court of law), that is not siding with criminals, its standing up for what the founders of this nation wanted, if people do not agree with this, there are plenty of other countries that feel the opposite way...America and its ways are not everyones cup of tea, and that is totally fine, different people have different beliefs and opinions on how things should be done.
Criminally Negligent Homicide
2nd degree Vehicular Manslaughter
Aggravated Vehicular Manslaughter
2nd degree Manslaughter
Unlawful Imprisonment (multiple counts)
Unlawful Imprisonment as a Hate Crime (multiple counts)
So what? All bail ever did was keep the people who couldn't afford a bond locked up, it didn't 'make you safe', that's just nonsense and I can almost guarantee you that in the past most people who were not arrested for an extremely serious crime were released on their own recognizance after a few weeks in jail.
