We can do better. Even with our big cars, we can find ways to be more efficient...and thank god there is some balance with people who can drive smaller, more efficient, or electric cars. I can’t. I don’t feel bad for needing a car that can fit 3 kids and all of their hockey equipment...that’s life. But it would be great to have a more efficient option. I don’t personally want to drive a huge car. I’d be happier with something smaller and will relish buying something else when the time comes...maybe a Tesla ;P

Why are you so threatened by the mere idea that we can do better? Why does taking care of our planet threaten conservatives so much?

If you want to drive some oversized gas guzzler, that's your prerogative. If others are concerned about the environment and don't want to spend all their money on filling up the tank, then its also their prerogative to buy a smaller/hybrid vehicle. Why are you so threatened by this?

This. I would love to have some idiot in a big pickup truck try to get me in my 5-speed Focus on a winding road somewhere. He'd be in a ditch before I ever reached 5th gear.

The Prius V could easily handle three kids and all their stuff, while being very efficient, easy to drive, and a money-saver when it comes to gas and maintenance. It's neither huge nor tiny.

Those Transit vans are too short inside for many construction trades. I will keep my E 150. It gets 18 mpg and will haul 12' carpet inside.

Since the price of gasoline is contingent on supply, the heavy users are driving up the cost of gasoline.
Why ration unless there is a shortage...? You might as well just call it what it is.......a tax....

Wouldn't make that into a connection that Americans want gas guzzling vehicles. We are not bringing back the living room style conversion vans of the 1960's and 1970's.
I might buy one. I always wanted one of those sin bins with red velour interiors. I couldn't afford it then.

I love my little hybrid. I used to drive an SUV, then did the minivan-mom thing for some years... when I was able to downsize to a little car, I did. So easy to drive and to park! I love the gas savings, too.

You can't drive like this on a road like this in a stupid big pickup truck.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9SApxkgPvo

Back in June I rented a Corolla on a trip to Oregon and had a ton of fun driving my aunt going fast down a winding mountain road. Scared the crap out of her!

Can't do that in a big vehicle.

Small cars are more fun to drive.

They are also not safer. If you get in a wreck they might be safer, but with a smaller car it's more maneuverable with a shorter breaking distance, so given the same driver and the same conditions you're less likely to get in a wreck in the first place.
