If you set the chain of events in motion, you are responsible. Iran would not have shot it down had it not thought that it was under attack from the US. Why did it think that? It thought that because in had fired missiles into Iraq in retaliation for the US which fired a missile into Iraq killing one of its top generals. This all emanated from the US backing out of a deal signed with Iran made by a former US president, with other nations on board with the agreement. The US unilaterally reneged on the agreement and then started taunting and pressuring Iran. Suffice it to say that those passengers who lost their lives would still be alive today had not Trump breached a signed agreement between the two nations.

Some people will spin this how ever their Trump bias swings. I think it was the keystone cops who were manning the missile controls who were responsible for it, but whatever.

Lol, if you were put in charge of just such a missile battery....do you think that you'd be able to avoid shooting down the planes taking off from the airport you've been sent to protect?

This isn't like you're getting swarmed with missiles and accidentally peg the wrong target.

Based upon the track record of many middle eastern militaries over the years and my friends\counsins recounting to me how disasterous joint drills would be (and how they'd skip the debriefings about how to improve) and how the officer corps were packed with the sons of the powerful with no ability....I can accept a far greater degree of incompetence that what even the US standards allow for which we all know is A LOT.

LOL....LOL.....yeah Iran was just sitting there doing nothing and then we backed out of a deal and made them shoot down a jet liner....

If we ignore the last 10+ years of funding IED and insurgent attacks in Iraq....various attacks on Saudi Arabia....etc. etc. etc.

Are you willfully ignorant of those events or knew about them and were just being dishonest?

Pretty scary stuff. A lot of average everyday innocent people were killed. That is shameful as hell.

So Iran is under no real threat from America as long as this dynamic is in place. Russia gets the increase in Iran's dependency and the whole thing sews discourse in America.

Putin laughs as American conservatives think that blowing up a general is going to stop Iran's asymmetrical attacks on the United States and the allies of the USA.

Putin laughs at liberals who think he is going to allow Trump to attack Iran in any formidable fashion.
Dead on Mr. Gein.

Putin and his cronies laugh all the way to the bank as they run circles around the simplistic Trump Administration. Russia will support anyone at any time anywhere in the world if it furthers their ability to destabilize the West. It's why Obama was such a great a value to them, as the backlash to his Presidency led directly to the election of Trump. They fueled that movement from day 1.

Americans are ridiculously easy to manipulate.

It was a rushed attack by the Iranians, possibly prompted by the large-scale protests and the need to "do something" about the Americans. That haste resulted in poor planning and communication, which led to the aircraft being shot down. A total cluster. Hanlan's razor applies.

What’s any of that matter? Saudi Arabia does all that too. So does Pakistan.
