But one kid is just as dead. Very sad and senseless. Guns and schools don't mix unless you are an officer of the law. You should also learn how to handle a gun and not keep it loaded while showing it off

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of a 19-year-old Bellaire High School classmate, an act that Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said she believed was unintentional.

The teen, whose identity was not released because of his age, was one of two people detained by Bellaire police in the hours after the shooting. Ogg described the shooting as reckless -- rather than intentional. Both teens were friends and members of the JROTC program.
The shooter fled the scene and the gun has not been recovered.

Bellaire HS fatal shooting was unintentional, DA says

Well, hope this teen gets at least 12 years in prison.

Based on what? That article had absolutely no information on what actually happened.

Until we know details, you shouldn't be condemning people. The authorities have enough info to say that it was unintentional, so who are you to say otherwise?

Kid freaked but you can't flee the scene. As for charging the teen, I'd only do so if his fleeing prevented or otherwise impeded the administration of aid that could have saved the deceased's life.

I'm glad that I graduated before the shooting happened. No shootings happened when I was at Bellaire.

Most countries have similar type of JROTC programs in schools known as Cadets (schools) and Officer Cadets (University Officer Training Corps), with live ammunition usually only being issued under strict supervision during target shooting on the range.

"Guns and schools don't mix"
B.S.

There are schools that have armed teachers and other faculty and not a single
"bad" shooting.

Stop trying to claim things you cannot back up.

Even in cities like D.C. kids used to take their guns to school with them. Be it for a shooting club or for hunting after school.

Many a school parking lot had many trucks with rifles hanging up in the back window.

Don't blame the utensil.

Kids "show off" with their cars and trucks all the time.

Some have accidents. Some are even killed.

Should we ban kids from having cars and rucks just because a few spin their tire, take off like a jack rabbit, dag race on the streets etc.?

"You should also learn how to handle a gun and not keep it loaded while showing it off"

On this I agree.

Again the gun is NOT the problem. It is the owner

What is bringing this 3 year old case to the surface? The link in the OP is not readable.
