Wow, this got serious in a hurry. I was hoping this was another over-blown media frenzy like we've had in the past but doesn't look like that's the case.

WHO is more worried about the global economy than global health. I'd say the same about the Trump administration. Why haven't they closed our borders to travelers coming from China? Answer: it would hurt the stock market.

This looks like the real deal. The average mortality age, from what I've read, is 72 and 2/100 cases are fatal. Inexpensive face masks don't help. The virus is basically airborne so someone sneezes, you touch the table near their sneeze, you put your hands near your nose, the virus goes into the nose, kills the cell and causes it to explode, and the virus spreads through your body.

The virus can even enter through your eyes.

A Beijing SARS expert visited Wuhan hospital with protective gear including N95 mask last week. But he fell sick after returning to Beijing. The symptom started from his eyes and he didn't wear eye googles during the visit.

Now over 10 cities near Wuhan are in lock down. Many videos streamed out of Wuhan show that everywhere in the City is dead quiet except the hospitals which are extremely crowded. The entire province is likely infected. Actual number of cases should be tens or even hundred times of the official figure.

That's probably true and shows the virus is not nearly as fatal as the official numbers might suggest.

Depends on your definition of "not nearly as fatal."

There is no cure, which is the scary part.

I wonder how long a surface remains contagious. I’m thinking of freight/packages arriving by air from China.

According to Lancet, the first clinical report about this new virus is published:

Up till 1/2, there were 41 patients who got sick. Since then, 15% had died. 73% of the patients are male, median age is 49.
