This is my town in the video. I don't know what's more absurd: the distribution of the needles, or the denial by so many (including our local news media) that it's compounding a problem into a disaster and attracting more and more junkies and homeless people to the city because they know we're as soft as goose down them.

It clearly is an issue, if it wasn't we wouldn't have just had a massive protest against it outside the city council chambers on February 4th. Commercial trucks were blocking parts of Main Street with signage against needle distribution, and hundreds of people gathered outside with picket signs and chants demanding something be done in favor of public safety.

Yet we have "public health" hacks with t-shirts reading "I studied public health in college so let's just assume I'm right about everything" basically telling the news "who cares if someone's kid steps on a needle?" That awful human being actually prioritizes the cravings of depraved junkies ahead of innocent and vulnerable children, and that's the progressive engine driving that's driving our town's leadership right now. Our city council sat inside, they actually voted to let the protestors into the meeting despite our mayor caught on a hot mic just prior to that muttering how "foolish" of a decision it was to let people in (because he's massively dissonant when faced with valid arguments and claims challenging his ludicrous agenda).

Our city is being held hostage to progressive carpet baggers, specifically a universally-disliked mayor and his vice mayor (whom I assert is the true puppet master in most all of our worst municipal policies since she was elected in 2018).

It's uncanny how they charge forward with their agenda and pay no heed to the local residents, let alone the people who've lived here far longer than they have and can actually tell when something's a problem. These dilettante progressives have no frame of reference for that sort of thing so they instead defer to bogus data harvested from other municipalities to validate their amoral agenda. They have no skin in this game, they're just in it for the political capital. The mayor's dad was/is in politics in Sunnyvale so he has a chip on his shoulder, and the vice mayor is a girl with ambition (state legislature, congress, dancing with the stars, I don't know).

Besides that, how many years have they tried and tried to get the drug problem under control in this country, and they just continue to fail year after year, there are MORE drugs coming in now than ever before.

Bravo, Radaghast!

You are dead on in your analysis of the Chico City Council. Those fools are driving your once-beautiful and charming town into the ground. Chico no longer resembles its once epic tranquility and serene beauty. Before the recent and current influx of drug-addicted, criminal transients, who came to Chico after the Camp Fire to take advantage of all of the "free" stuff, Chico was a thriving little community where people felt safe to raise their children. That's all changed.

But, Chicoans, as Radaghast said, are taking back their town. They are done with being forced to live in fear and being terrorized by the transients that the City Council has allowed to take over Chico and destroy the town. I applaud you all for taking a stand and forcing your voice to be heard and change to happen.

Come November 2020, the current Chico City Council will implode and be overtaken by the will of the people. The current progressive liberals days are numbered, and they know it. Chicoans will vote in a majority of conservatives to help them take back their town. I hope it's not too late.

And, Radaghast, the mayor muttered "foolish" four times. His days are number, and he knows it.

Here is a Youtube video of the citizens of Chico taking back their town. Go Chico!

Respectfully, rstevens62, I will only support a "needle exchange" or "needle distribution" program for drug addicts if a healthy dose of fentanyl is laced in each needle.

I now have zero compassion for those people. My compassion is now focused squarely on the countless innocent victims the drug addicts have terrorized, harmed and ruined.

That program only encourages drug use-- further perpetuating the problem.

Instead I think we should use tax dollars and government funding to put people in rehab for 90 days if their caught using substances. Too bad if they don't want to go, after 90 days in rehab they can work on counseling and other health needs. Drugs and homelessness is ruining cities. No narcon, no free needles.

Agree 100%.

I'll add, if people want to drugs, do it at their own risk. If they OD, it's a form of natural selection and helps resolve the problem.

IF you feel this strongly about drugs (like I do), surely it upsets and outrages you to know that a federal govt agency is using our laws to benefit these criminal organizations (DEA)?

Have to remember, the Drug cartels love the DEA, without them, the cartels wouldnt have such a profitable marketplace in the first place.

I view the DEA to be on the same level as a terrorist organization (as they are a contributing factor in the deaths and ruined lives of 10s of 1000s of American citizens).

This morning, a young lady in Butte County, California decided to go to the local free Needle Distribution Program that's held every Sunday, in a local park. She's not a drug addict or participant of the program; she wanted to know what the process was like.

At the distribution site, they gave her and handout free needles and a bunch of other items, likely costly Narcan, to aide people in injecting drugs into their bodies.

Notice, the program is not a Needle Exchange program, which would require participants to bring and give their used needles in exchange for new needles. Nope, distribution programs just give drug addicts a bunch of needles and other items to help and incentivize them to continue to violate many laws in California.

FYI: in crazy California, it's called a "Harm Reduction" Program, which translates into "Free Needles for Junkies."

This is an example of our (my) tax dollars at work. I helped pay for all of the free stuff that program gives to people who inject illegal substances into their bodies, most of whom don't work. I also work to make sure they have all sorts of other "necessities" (all free) in their lives, e.g., Obama phone, SSI, Medicaid, Medicare, free food/Food Stamps, free clothing, shelters that feed and shelter them, counseling and the list goes on and on.

To think I work hard and long hours to support people injecting illegal, controlled substances into their bodies, and giving them the means by which to do it, angers me more that I can reasonably articulate.

I don't want to support their drug habits or their lives. Yet, some part of every hour I work to earn a living and support myself goes toward supporting and enabling these drug addicts to enjoy their habits and their chosen lifestyles.

I am disgusted by it all!
California does everything backwards, and eventually it's going to catch up with them.
