More than 40 U.S. states could allow some form of legal marijuana by the end of 2020, including deep red Mississippi and South Dakota — and they’re doing it with the help of some conservatives.

State lawmakers are teeing up their bills as legislative sessions kick off around the country, and advocates pushing ballot measures are racing to collect and certify signatures to meet deadlines for getting their questions to voters.

Should they succeed, every state could have marijuana laws on the books that deviate from federal law, but people could still be prosecuted if they drive across state lines with their weed, because the total federal ban on marijuana isn’t expected to budge any time soon. The changes could usher in even more confusion for law enforcement and escalate the pressure on Congress to act. Federal bills are crawling through Congress, with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell firmly against legalization.

With the success that Colorado has had and the money the money they have made from sells this should be a no brainer.

It's about time some of the freedom loving, non RINO republicans grew a pair and pushed back against big sissy nanny government. They don't know best, and they've demonstrated that for decades now.

By the way, Democratic front runner Joker Joe Biden's stance is to continue restricting marijuana for grown adults by keeping it a controlled/scheduled substance. He is all about utilizing government as a weapon pointed at your head if you decide to exercise your god given freedom of choice. Just say NO to Biden and his plans for expanding and abusing sissy nanny big government . Before he starts trying to control our lives, he needs to control his very busy hands...

Not only does it bring revenue for the state, it also gets many off of manufactured opiods.

The funny thing about weasel words is they work both ways... Yes they "could", they also "could not"

That said I couldn't care less which states legalize marijuana use as its a drug(along with a ton of others) I never intend to use. You do you. Live and let live.

How about letting people decide which drug they want to use?

Some prefer marijuana, some like opioids, its the same basic premise, our govt should NOT be creating or enforcing ancient racist laws like this in the first place, its beyond their scope.

just another hint, ID be very cautious about believing the govt when it comes to the dangers of opioids...remember they tried to pull the same thing with marijuana years ago too, they created that movie 'Reefer madness' to scare everyone about how dangerous it is to use...today, they are doing the same thing with opioids, we are always hearing how deadly and dangerous they are!

Ah, no. People don't decide. It's what a dr gives you. Opiods are addictive as you know. Pot is not addictive unless you have fools saying it is.

Yea, they used to say marijuana was addictive too...have you ever seen 'Reefer madness'? Its hilarious, but they actually tried to make people believe those things...they are doing the exact same thing today with opioids, new drug, same old game.

Plus we were taught that marijuana was addictive in DARE classes back in the 1980s.

The thing is, opioids actually do cause a chemical dependency. Marijuana does not. Willpower is all that's necessary for even the stereotypical stoner to quit marijuana. Opioid users have to go to rehab and be under intense medical supervision to go through withdrawal. I'd classify opiods more with alcohol. Marijuana is more like caffeine (though more intoxicating).

You are not hearing what Im saying...do you realize they tried to make people believe all these things about marijuana years ago? this is their 'go to tactic' when it comes to demonizing drugs...they make them look very deadly and dangerous, very addictive and impossible to get off of.

This is not a new tactic, its been used a couple times already, but Im supposed to believe they are telling the truth THIS TIME? YEAH RIGHT!

I'm happy to see this as well. We've had big-government RINOs take the party from its once conservative nature to the liberal big-government actions we see coming out of the Whitehouse today. It will be some time before the conservatives take our party back, but the sooner the better.
