Nationalism is a form of collectivism which regards the profit motive and capitalism with suspicion. Maybe not to the same extreme extent as say communists, but still enough to be easily considered center-left at least in terms of economic and overall social doctrine.

The narrative about nationalism being a right-wing idea is bull****. Right-winters are money grubbing capitalists and pro-individualists and typically despise nationalism in favor of globalism and free trade. Socialism and nationalism (and before anybody says it, no national-socialism isn't socialism or at least not in the traditional sense) are actually just 2 different competing strands of leftist ideology. The narrative about "right-wing nationalists" is horse**** because there isn't any such thing.

Rightist: Individual goes first
Leftist: Collective goes first.

Nationalism is a form of collectivism centered around a common group identity, thus it is a leftist idea rather than a right-wing one.

Nationalism is putting the country first before the rest of the world. That’s the basic definition, look it up. It’s a right-wing trait to put yourself first before others on a national and individual level, so nationalism fits them perfectly

That's a pretty meaningless definition, because every ideology believes they're putting their country first before anything else.

i think self centeredness is a HUMAN trait which our whole economic system is based upon as in capitalism

conservatives just roll with the flow and throw in some religion to temper some bad outcomes of greed while socialist attempt to re-engineer the system with countermeasures....

Nationalism = doing what’s best economically for one’s country first, then (optionally) helping others
Anti-nationalism = sacrificing one’s country economically to allow others to advance
Foolishness = continuing to sacrifice one’s country economically to others which have reached parity or superiority economically

Nationalism = US from 1789 till 1960s
Ani-nationalism = US from 1960s till 1990s
Foolishness = US from 1990s till present day
Post-Foolishness = Nationalism = when Trump gets his way

So is this another "liberal man bad", or "right wing man bad" thread. I mean, that's what 99.9% of every thread started on this sub-forum is seeking to achieve. This one has me a bit confused.

From a conservative point of view.....
Yeah ......if you call the 10 commandments the barometer of normalcy (some religion to temper the greed ) you hit the nail on the head.

That is not what nationalism is.

Nationalism is cultural and not rooted in any property theory or economic system; is usually based on a crowd symbol; and that is especially true for irredentism, which is another form of nationalism that would probably weird you out if I tried to explain it.

Suffice to say in Romania, Transylvania is to nationalism as Bessarabia is to irredentism.
