I get that it might be a bit annoying to reconfigure a car (can't they stay in separate cars?). However, even if it WAS very costly to do so for Amtrack, I cannot see how passing on ALL of the cost (as in $25,000 for a two hour ride) will be good for business.

????? Not a single word in the cited news item had anything at all to do with reconfiguring an Amtrak car.

Check your source and try again.

At the point where all the wheelchair accessable seats were sold Amtrack could simply say there are no more seats available. That's what our our theater does, it's impossible to "reconfigure" when stairs are involved.
