What did you do when gasoline was at around $5/gal? I like low fuel prices too, but we know that oil prices can be pretty volatile. It’s actually shocking they have stayed as stable as they have for the last ten years or so. Give yourself a plan B.

I just had Quaker Oats for Breakfast. Cheap.

I hear tell that gas was $4 during at least one of the GWB years. Did you close shop?

They have nice small diesel vans these days that average 26.

On a related matter, maybe I can offer you some business advice? If you are working that close to the vest you are doing something wrong. Call me "The Profit". Unless you are Federal Express (and even then) the cost of fuel shouldn't be the main driver of your profit or loss.

I drive a plug-in-hybrid and pay pennies for gas. If gas prices go through the roof, it won’t affect me. Have solar on the roof too. Energy independence baby, that’s the American way.

1) I was around for the big OPEC oil embargo in the 70's. Spoiler Alert: We managed to survive and prosper despite it.

2) Unfortunately, we won't survive and prosper if global warming continues on unchecked.

3) Anyhow, you don't need to lay awake and worry about gas prices. You and your denier pals have done an outstanding job of preventing any policies to be implemented anywhere.

Even in the event that we get a Democrat for president in this November's election and Dems take over the Senate in addition to the House, it will be years of squabbling and court cases before anything constructive gets done. You will die in some worldwide epidemic brought on by global warming or have a heart attack due to extreme heat stress or drown in your backyard thanks to sea level rise before you have to start worrying about gas price increases.

Feel better now?

Wait until after the election. Gas prices will spike, no matter who wins.

Buy some oil stocks that pay decent dividends.

Driving east on I-40, through the eastern part of California......I recently paid close to $6 a gallon in a few areas. Stayed in Ridgecrest, Ca for a few months, $3.50 to $4 a gallon was typical.

I am now in Texas and gas is close to $2 a gallon.

well here are two options for you;

1) keep running a gas engine, and use an alternative fuel. propane, CNG, methane are three decent alternatives, but they can be expensive. however you can MAKE your own fuel fairly cheaply. sugar based ethanol has a high yield per pound of sugar used, and with a few minor modifications you can run ethanol, or at least E85 depending on your setup, fairly cheaply.

2) swap the gas engine for a diesel engine. that change alone gives you about 50% higher fuel economy depending on what diesel engine you choose to use. you can then run various vegetable oils, or make your own biodiesel.
