Trump meets a lot more people than me, so it is entirely possible he doesn’t remember the guy.

Or he might have lied.
A couple problems with this rationalization:

1) Trump has proclaimed that we should take his word on disputed accounts because he has "one of the greatest memories of all time." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...s-of-all-time/)

It is unfathomable that he could not just pose for photo ops with Parnas, but also dine with him and talk about State Department affairs with him, without knowing who he is.

2) Piggybacking on the first point, if the leader of the executive branch is discussing sensitive diplomatic issues with people he doesn't know from a hole in the wall, then there is an even larger problem. It shows that he has terrible judgment and can't be trusted to safeguard the nation's secrets.

The White House’s response to the report of the conversation didn’t deny that Trump attended the dinner, nor did it deny that it was Trump's voice.

“Every President in our history has had the right to place people who support his agenda and his policies within his Administration,” the White House press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement.
Nope. Sorry. Still not getting your point as to why this is a big deal.

The bad news is that she doesn't seem to grasp that directing a couple of Russian mob-connected guys to "take out" an American ambassador is not how "every President in our history" goes about placing supportive people in his administration.

If what Trump actually does is so awful, why do you feel the need to continually lie and pretend he did other things that there is no basis for claiming?
Stupid or not, it's true.

Firtash is an oligarch "billionaire with alleged ties to the Russian mob," who is "seen by Ukrainian anti-corruption activists and Western governments as a corrupt instrument of Russia."

"Firtash is facing bribery-related charges in the U.S. and fighting extradition from Vienna."

According to a court filing by U.S. prosecutors, a month before Parnas was indicted, his wife received $1 million dollars in wire transfers from Firtash's lawyer via a bank account in Russia.

You are making a giant leap there assuming Trump actually cares about the nation.

Would this mean you are fine with Trump directing Russian mob connected guys to "take out" American ambassadors?

There is no evidence that Trump cares about the nation.

Now we will find out if Republicans do.

There's no evidence that he "dined with him", and what do you imagine strangers talk to elected officials about? The weather?

LOL. The stupid part isn't that he's a mobster (which is entirely plausible) but that Trump directed him to do what you said. That is an absolutely crazy notion that only a TDS'd mind could entertain.

Firing an ambassador is a huge deal.
No. It’s not. It hasn’t been with previous presidencies, so it certainly isn’t a big deal in an administration with such a high attrition rate.

Especially when the ambassador is making derogatory comments about the guy that has the power to fire her.

There is a tape of Trump directing them to "take out" Ambassador Yovanovitch.

It's in all the news.
