I pledged a fraternity back in '71.

I don't remember any hazing.

Just athletic competitions against other fraternities, putting on skits etc. during Greek Week and fun parties with the various sororities on campus.

Lots of drinking at those parties but we survived.

Our pledge class, IIRC, made weed pretty mainstream in our chapter.

Good times!

I do not understand the need to belong/ be accepted to the point of adults, usually males, subjecting themselves to physical abuse, humiliation and over the top risks.

Guess when things go sideways, it’s easier to blame fraternities instead of taking personal responsibility.

They`re underaged drinking clubs and always have been. They do a token fundraiser now and then as cover for what they really are.

Why does it mean frats has more problems with hazing than sororities?

Sororities haze but not anywhere to the extent that fraternities do.

I joined a sorority in my college days and the hazing there was more stupid things like having to go around the campus and sing stupid songs, etc.

Certainly there were parties, drinking, and drugs but not drinking oneself to death; there were no number of required shots to drink, etc in order to pledge.

Fraternities was a whole different ballgame.

That was my experience.

Probably because they're young males.

I mean, more males get into boxing, rugby, the USMC than females.

Plus young women mature earlier than young men.

I nevery understood the point of fraternities and sororities. You're basically buying friends.

If that was an exact quote from the guy then they're not very bright considering his starting assumption is that "all college students are liberal".

Furthermore, the national average of participation in frats\sororities is about 10%.

But hey, that's par for the course when writers go near math, statistics or logical thought.
(Kidding a little bit near the end there but not by much.)

There is so much ignorance and bigotry about Greek life out there. It typically comes from the left because the left hates institutions that they don't control. The board's liberals didn't disappoint with their ignorant comments on this thread.

Was that your experience?

Can't relate. Neither can my son.
