Would not surprise me -- professional rotorcraft pilots don't make a lot of money as there's a lot of competition. And this guy had the experience to know that hills and special VFR don't mix too good.

Of course. Only a nut would have flown in those conditions; he should have refused to fly. However, given the fierce competition among helicopter pilots, to do so would have been professionally damaging.

Exactly. And I'm sorry to have to say this, but there's also the factor of KB's personal responsibility for himself, his daughter, and his friends. Look at the (expletive deleted) weather report/forecast. Fog, helicopters, and hilly/mountainous terrain DO NOT MIX. Period.
