Why does my dog have better health care than I? (Pelosi, suspected)

Observations: 1 female dog 10 years old

1. 3 laser surgeries to remove eye cancer, 3 vet ophthalmologists in the room, $1800/ea
2. Several xrays and evals during regulat check ups, max $150-$300 each
3. annual vaccinations and checkups, few hundred bucks
4. No more than 1-7 days waiting for appointments, for GP or specialists
5. 3 emergency room trips, several stomach pumps due to suspected chocolate injestion (we had a home bakery), never more than $800 a pop
6. Vet school is harder to get into than medical school and perhaps just as difficult.

Meanwhile, my health care could bankrupt me, and service stinks.

Why? I can only point out one thing. My dog's health care isn't chained up in government regulation and red tape.

Just look to any industry with minimal government involvement, take the example of telecommunications, where we have wonderful, inexpensive tools and great servce. Then look at the industries most highly regulated and/or nationalized, like education and health care. DISASTER

Given these observations, I'd argue that less government is always better, regardless of the good or service in question.

It depends where you live. Vet care here is so expensive that when I got 2 young dogs I bought pet insurance.

I spent multiples of that on my own teeth.

All of it out of pocket and nothing to do with insurance or government.

Yes, healthcare in America was ABSOLUTELY perfect prior to Obama Care. Was so cheap! Can't believe he messed it all up.

Veterinary medicine is way more of a free market than human healthcare. That's why the costs are lower.

My last three cats put together have cost me like $2k over the last 22 years. And I take them to a vet that has a PhD in feline medicine, only deals with cats, and would be considered one of the gold standard feline doctors in NE Ohio.

How much is the government involved in veterinary medicine? About the same as they are in cosmetic surgery, chiropractic therapy and homeopathy. Not much, which is why all of those things are cheaper than your health care.

Why is taking care of my cats so cheap? Because I don't have to pay to make sure everyone with a dog can get their pooch 4 teeth cleanings per year for a $10 copay. My vet hasn't been gobbled up by a veterinary conglomerate that is operated as a government protected monopoly. My vet is a small, private business with 4 employees, but there is competition aplenty for providing care to my feline American roommates. The prices and quality of service reflect that fact.

Bottom line, the more free the market, the happier the consumers within that market will be.

People will euthanize an animal who's treatment is too expensive or who quality of life is next to nothing. With people we spend every last penny to save the 95 year old demented person with no family, the crackhead who's overdosed for the 15th time, the person in a vegetative state kept alive by machines and medications, the welfare mama who brings her four kids to the er for sniffles every other week. All of that costs money that has to come from somewhere and it costs us all more.

It was not perfect, nothing will ever be but Obama and the Democrats have made things much worse for everyone other than the welfare leeches.
